Has anyone else seen this site?

I stumbled across this website today.

http://www.monkeydepot.com/

They have some really good looking male dolls there, poseable, 1/6 scale, and the prices seem good. I thought it'd be worth passing on for those who feel the Obitsu slim body is too skinny for a particular character... or who need a darker skinned male.

I also thought this was interesting, though out of my price range for now... 33 points of articulation, but no visible seams/joints!

So, what do the rest of you think?

Monkey Depot has a good reputation, so keep that in mind when you're ready to order. :) I like the look of the X Series guys, they must be one of the newer companies in the 1:6 game. Good to know there's someone out there more affordable than Hot Toys or Sideshow.

I don't have a Phicen myself, but have heard pluses and minuses about them- the body is beautifully formed, but apparently they look a little odd when you bend, say, an elbow or knee.

I've ordered from them and everything went fine. Boxed full sets can get pricey, but worth it for some great stuff, you can also find the same body type in the nudes. I have many guys on my web site http://dolfielittles.com/encyclopedia.html if you're looking for a specific body type.

Check war-toys.com too, when they have clearance they have clearance.

Agreed. Hot Toys and Sideshow are both astronomically out of my budget most of the time. And these seem about as poseable as Obitsu bodies, just lacking in magnet feet. I had to find these just before getting a male Obitsu... now I have to rethink parts of that order. XD

I'll definitely check out the other site too, and bookmark both. And I've been wanting to have a good look at that encyclopedia for a while, but will have to wait until the 6th... that's when I finally get highspeed here. All those pictures take forever to load with dialup, but soon it won't be an issue.

I especially loved all the cheap loose bits that site had, like clothes and shoes. Now if I could just decide if I should get more of an action figure body for Dyna, or stick to the idea of getting one of the slim obitsu. He is rather bishy, so in his case the latter might still work better... but it's nice to know there are more options within my budget for male charas.

All of the 1/6 guys on those sites are way bigger than a Slim Obitsu and then it depends on the type of neck you need. Take some pictures of the head, including the neck hole, and I can help you narrow down what to look for. Hot Toys and SIdeshow are huge compared to Slim and the head might look too small.

In general the companies know there is a sizable kit bashing market so they make everything a general one size fits just about 1/6 scale everyone. The quality is worth the price on the clothes, some shoes lace up, and the accessories are to die for. Some bodies are taller, some are fatter, don't be afraid to ask questions. I own everything on my site so I can answer a lot of questions :)

I have a Hujoo Freyr, and most of the items I'm looking at are things that would button up since he's got a big honking head to try and fit stuff over. Too big on the body is okay, because I can try and size it down. You're right that it's probably going to be sized for a much thicker body. My main concern is actually the size of sleeve and pant leg holes! Freyr dolls have pawed hands and feet which make them potentially larger than something tightly fitted could slip through. (Sadly it means that boots are right out! ; A; )

The accessories really ARE to die for, though, I've been fantasizing about a full WW1 kit all day. *U* I think I'm going to get some of the neater accessories and a few test clothes to see how well they'll work.

I only have a Hujoo Berry so I can't say what he'll fit. Or order something inexpensive to try, the clothes are generally made in the same "size" so if one outfit fits the others generally will.

One problem might be shirt cuffs because a lot of the 1/6 guys take their hands off.

I actually don't have a head yet either, and was planning to order that when I picked a body. I've noticed, tho, that most of the action doll types have what I think of as a 'ken doll' neck, where the head can only turn from side to side and has limited mobility... I don't really like that, as I think it loses a lot of expression/body language potential that's needed when you're dealing with an actor/model that can't actually change face expressions.

I'm also still debating the magnet feet issue when it comes to the obitsu. On one hand, I want as much posability as I can get. On the other, I've heard the magnets are kind of weak and won't work well when the doll's actually wearing shoes... So I'm wondering if I should save a few bucks and just make shoes with magnets in the soles?

The accessories really ARE to die for, though

I know. If I get nothing else from that site, I will probably save up to do an 'accessory raid' order at some point in the future!

The range of motion all depends on the type of neck. Some have sockets in the shoulders too. You can put a knob adaptor on a split or Dragon style neck.

If you're near a Big Lots store be on the look out for 12" Power Team Elite figures, they're on Ebay and Amazon as well. They're reasonable fully clothed and accessorized with very nice head sculpts. You can change heads with a bit of work but you can also work and repaint the head. They're muscular, very articulated, and wear the same general size clothes that those web sites sell so you can mess around with them.
