FINISHED! Head swap (Hot Toys knock off - Mattel Ken hybrid)

Postby MitisFeles » Wed Sep 11, 2013 1:51 pm

Today I felt inspirated, and so I started to work on my Hot Toys knock-off.
I have a Cy girl body - Obitsu head hybrid, Zenobia, that was in need of a friend, and my intention is to create one for her.

So, here it is my choosen vict.... aherr, the privileged doll that will get a full articulated body:

Look at that awesome posing abilities!

(Zenobia is a bit disgusted...)

Don't loose your head!... Well, maybe is a bit late.

Zenobia: "Now things start to become interesting..."

I planned to eliminate all his hair and give him flocked royal blue hair and muttonchop... but I'm always uncertain when it comes to cut a new doll's hair, even if awfully covered in sticky gel. Please persuade me that I have to cut all...

I had a very long, lonely weekend, and I used it to end all my "in progress" doll projects... well, still have to paint some of my white Freya, but these are details.

Plucking out Ken's hair was the hardest part. There was so much glue that I ended using the pliers I use for jewelry to pull out all -_-

New face! Now, let's start flocking:

Image

I used some flocking powder sold as nail art product. I feared to make a disaster in my room, but luckily I messed up less than expected.
I had to glue his head on the head support piece because the neck post was smaller than the hole on the Ken's head, but it doesn't have influences on his mobility (the neck turns the same way.)

Finished! Now a funny fact:
when I showed him to my boyfriend, he exclaimed: "He looks like Ruben!"
I had a strange sensation of familiarity when making the doll (you know, something they decide how to came out, not us) and when he said so, I recalled why: Ruben is a friend of us and my doll really looks like him (same hairdo, even if not blue XD) I laughed so much that I was in tears... so now he is called Ruben, he is Brazilian and plays in a power metal band (thanks Angra!).
