obitsu and Disney hybrid question

Can your average Disney doll be easily hybridized with and obitsu?

I already have a body on the way, but I did buy another head in case it wouldn't work. I don't want to pop off the Disney head and find that it doesn't work and then not be able to get it back on the original body. I've never done a hybrid before and have childhood memories of the barbie who had no neck after her head came off and I'd just have to jam it back on when I played with her.

Should be able to work just fine. :D
Just be gentle taking off the head; don't want to break anything.

Theoretically I think it's entirely possible, but due to the way Barbie's head is attached you may have to improvise a tiny bit.

http://dizzysplayhouse.com/removing_head.html <--This is a great tutorial for removing Barbie's head with miminal fuss and stuff you can find lying around the house. Although instead of the knitting needle, I might recommend a set of very thin jeweler's pliers so you'll be able to grab the prongs and bend and twist them inside the head until they break or bend out of the way (I would twist them upwards towards the top of her head) instead of having to slowly ease Barbie's head off at the prongs part of the steps.

Hope this helps a bit! :D

Thanks for the links!
The last thing I want is another neck-less wonder. (the last one was also a legg-less wonder. Poor thing was probably happy when she was finally put out of her maimed misery!)

I have very successfully put Tinkerbell on an Obitsu body. It's a matter of picking the right neck knob. I think I used the largest one.

Just as a clarification quidam in case you aren't aware, zirconmermaid is talking about the various knobs that come with 27cm Obitsus that can be interchanged. Because through the years Barbie's head hole sizes have changed, you may have to experiment depending on what era your desired Barbie head is from. <3

The best part about the tutorials is that the body isn't just scrap either. You now effectively know how to interchange heads on most of the Barbie population. :D

 quidam, I wish you all the luck in the world!! Out of curiousity, who is the lucky lady getting an awesomely articulated Obitsu body?

Thanks everyone!
I actually ordered the 23 cm body, as her current one is 24 cm.I didn't add the height of the head, so assume I got it right? If not I can always get the other one. I was planning on a second body if this worked out anyway, for the loose head I ordered with the first one. the two biggest things will be the head, of course, and the clothes fitting.

She's the original Disney store version of Merida, before the princess-fied her and covered her in glitter and makeup. I'm very spoiled, though, and can't stand her lack of posing capabilty. I actually stuffed her back into a box because she was making me so mad.

Mine also has derpy eyes, but I'm willing to live with that as long as she can do more than stand or sit like a man.

If she's 11'' tall you may want to get a small busted 27cm Obitsu body versus the 23cm? Is she "Normal Barbie" sized or more teenager Barbie sized? You may want to go for the 25 cm Obitsu female in the case of the latter.

As for derpy eyes, fix those with a quick faceup! ^_~

It will work but the head may be a little loose/swivelly on the Obitsu body. The Disney heads are huge (especially Merida's), a bit heavy, and also may look a little peculiar on an Obitsu because Obitsu bodies have very narrow shoulders. I once tried to put the DS Cinderella, Aurora and Snow White heads on a 27cm Obitsu body and while the skintone matched lovely, the narrow shoulders made them look a tad peculiar. Maybe since Merida has an extra SD sized head (Not 'SD' in 1/3 sense, but in the Japanese 'SD' meaning 'super deformed') it might look all right anyway?

Volks doll bodies have broader shoulders but they are not as pretty or sturdy as Obitsu bodies. (The female bodies.) But like I said, since Merida in the film and on the doll has an unusually large head anyway, being on a narrow shouldered body might actually look fine!!!

LOL -I guess she would be super deformed, wouldn't she? I'm going to have to remember that term!

How do they compare in pose-ability?
Prettiness doesn't bother me too much. She'll be probably staying in her dress which covers everything. Sturdiness does bother me a bit. I wouldn't say I'm like a bull in a china shop, but I'm not what you'd call the most careful person in the world.

? Is she "Normal Barbie" sized or more teenager Barbie sized?

Truth be told, I really can't answer this. She's the only doll I have in this scale. The closest I have in comparison is a MH and a GI Joe, and they're obviously not that close! I guess I'll be stuck on the wait and see until I get the body. (Hopefully by Monday or Tuesday!)

As for derpy eyes, fix those with a quick faceup! ^_~

Unfortunately my eye painting skills wouldn't do her justice. Her current eyes do look very nice; they just aren't looking in the same direction! I figure either I'll get used to it and see it as part of her charm, or someday I'll cave in and send her to a customizer who can fix her.
