One of my favorites - Tonner's DeeAnna Denton (pic heavy)

Postby TheHighlander » Fri Aug 20, 2010 12:24 am

While I wait for my new 1/3 scale Obitsu to come, I'm not wanting for Dollieh love, I have my Tonners to comfort me. And my, what ladies they are. I have quite a few Tonners, but my absolute favorite of his is the DeeAnna Denton doll. I have almost managed to collect one from each of the editions so far. Sometimes they came nude, sometimes from a previous owner, and sometimes even from Tonner themselves.

I have several online galleries of images of my favorite ladies, so I thought I would share some of them and post links to the galleries themselves so you can see more if you wish.

One of the interesting things about the DeeAnna Denton Doll is that she is (for her scale) something of a Dollfie Dream Dynamite compared to Tonner's other ladies. She has a better sculpted body, she's bigger (more 'athletic') and definitely bustier. Not to mention she was one of the first Tonner ladies to feature a new ball type knee socket that allows the leg to twist at the knee as well as bend. Together with wrist, ankle, hip, shoulder, torso and neck articulation that gives her 14 points of articulation, which is the same as the new Tonner Antoinette, and two more than the old Tonner Tyler body. The more flexible knee also beats out the old Tyler body, and is featured on the new Antoinette (personally I can't stand Antoinette - too thin).

However DeeAnna is what I'm talking about, she's my favorite. So, here are some images and links. One of the galleries is a re-creation of a photo shoot that Marilyn Monroe did, and contains several comparison images allowing you to visually compare and see how closely DeeAnna comes to matching Marilyn. I will link to a menu above that gallery so that if you do not wish to view doll nudes, you can simply skip that gallery. Some of the images I present here are not in that gallery.

As you can see, she has a pretty face...
Image

Image

Her shoulder, arm and wrist articulation is pretty standard Tonner. The wrist can turn 360 and tilt up ad down, the forearm has 360 degree rotation, but can only bend t about 90 degrees. The shoulder has a similar range of motion...
Image

Image

She's a nice looking doll, as you can see here she fills out her lingerie...

Image

Image

Her legs have a fairly wide range of motion, although the knees can only bend to about 90 degrees, and the ankles are not rotational. The biggest draw back is when she sits she can't close her legs, never mind cross them.
Image

You can find this gallery via this menu of several galleries. DeeAnna Denton Galleries
Note that the Red Velvet gallery does contain doll nudity. The comparisons with Marilyn Monroe can be found in images 4-9.

I have many other examples of this doll's versatility and beauty. Unlike more conventional BJDs she is rooted and has painted eyes, so I have quite a few DeeAnna's to get a nice blend of hair and eye color. Here are a few others to enjoy, and there are links at the end for their galleries.

You can of course view all my doll pictures on my site dolls.lowlander.net.

In addition to my Tonners, I also have a number of images of R&D Angels, Susies, a 27cm Volks Who's That Girl, and assorted others, as well as a few Barbie Silkstones for good measure.

As you can tell, I am very much a no dollieh left behind kind of person...

Thanks for letting me share. I hope you enjoy the eye-candy.

Nice to see a doll that isn't anorexic. She has a very nice, curvy body.

Wow!... she sure is gorgeous, and so are your pictures! That body sounds interesting. I'm wondering if Candice, my Tonner Mrs Claus would like to exchange her body for a DeeAnna one. Mrs C has the Emmy body, the second one. She's a larger girl, but the articulation is just basic, and not much fun for her!

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures. You can never have enough eye-candy, and it has zero calories and doesn't spike your glucose levels...

Definitely! She has a very nice sculpt. Her only real problem is the inability to sit with knees together or leggs crossed, but apart from that she's very versatile. Not quite a BJD in the traditional sense, but you can see how Tonner is making strides with his vinyl ladies. You can replace the arms, hands, and even the lower torso. Of course, you can re-head, so a total body transplant is possible to. So if your lady get's badly stained or breaks, all is not lost.

My wife has done a lot of franken-dolly work with head swapping to the DeeAnna body. I checked with her and she thinks it would work. She mentioned that she'd seen a head swap of Hortencia to the DeeAnna Body, and Hortencia starts on the Emme body as well. Other heads that we've successfully moved to the DeeAnna body include the Lady Ozmopolitan head, Ellowyne/Prudence, Betty Anne and Reading to Alice, as long as the vinyl color matches (and most of the mainline dolls do match, you can pretty much swap any other them, as long as the sculpt works with the slightly larger body.

We've also done a lot of transplanting of heads onto the Tonner 15-inch Teen body that is more or less a scaled down version of the DeeAnna Body (15-inch instead of 17-inch). The Teen has one additional articulation that the DeeAnna lacks, that one will twist at the waist, but of course she's smaller. That said, compared to the other Tonner 16-inch tolls (especially Antoinette) the teen body is more curvy over all, which personally I like.

Ooh, wow!!! Owner photos of DeeAnna Denton---and such gorgeous shots, too!!!! Thank you for sharing them, Highlander-san!!!!!!

This particularly sparks my interest, because since she came out, I was wondering if Tonner based her on 'Deanna Durbin' (an opera singer/soprano & film star from the 30s/40s, who was super famous during her time. I think because she retired at 27yrs of age, no one remembers her and she never had any 'scandals' but when she was acting, she was one of the most famous actresses ever, everyone knew her then, and she was even the highest paid actress in 1947, internationally world-reknowned since 1937; Mussolini requested her to not be 'against the Italians' and to understand their point during WWII, and Anne Frank ('The Diary of Anne Frank') even had Deanna's picture hanging on the wall in her attic secret room, she was so popular and famous.) I really think she has one of the best, if not THE best, soprano singing voices EVER and many modern opera singers and voice trainers say they studied Deanna's technique, including Kiri Te Kanawa.

Anyway, sorry to get off on a rant! Back to the point! Since DeeAnna Denton came out, I've been trying to figure out if Tonner based her look and name on the beautiful Deanna Durbin! I've always thought so, because the look IS SOOO close----the Vivaciously Vintage DeeAnna doll in particular is a DEAD ringer for Deanna Durbine, (especially that unique nose and striking eyes! It's JUST like the real Deanna's) it could be a portrait doll of Deanna Durbin and now that I see closeups and owner photos, it's confirmed even moreso to me! She looks EXACTLY like my beloved Deanna! (I'm a huge Deanna Durbin fan ^^;;) I was contemplating buying one and dressing her in my favorite Deanna Durbin finale gown from the movie "Spring Parade" but put it off, having not really seen good close up photos of the beautiful doll to see if the resemblance was true or not. I think I'll definitely need to keep an eye out for a Vivaciously Vintage DeeAnna to turn into a 'Deanna' portrait. (On another point, DeeAnna's rival doll 'Peggy Harcourt' looks EXACTLY like Gene Tierney, as well!)

Here are some pictures of the beautiful actress/singer---what do you guys think? A match or what? ^^

LOL! Well, as it happens I did know who Deanna Durbin is/was. I knew the name, but never made the connection because it's literally been 15 or more years since I've seen a movie of hers. I used to live in Scotland, and the BBC used to show movies from the golden age of Hollywood on weekends. I loved them all, I watched as many as I could when I was young. I'm certain that most of Deanna Durbin's movies will have been played on the BBC at some point or another and I probably loved them all. I've always loved the movies and stars of that era. Very classy, and classic. Why did she retire so early?

Yes, I agree, there is a striking resemblance. I was Googling images of her after reading your post and Tonner's DeeAnna Denton is very similar, it's almost like she was made as a tribute to Deanna Durbin. A couple of your images really show the similarities. One of the things I found in the various images was her autograph and how it reminded me of the cover art on the DeeAnna Denton box. Here are a couple of pictures from Tonner Doll Company (I'm linking to them, the images belong to Tonner Doll Company)

This first one is Tonner's artwork for the DeeAnna Denton Doll box and collection.

This second image is of the Plum Royale DeeAnna Denton doll.

I think that would work really well. DeeAnna is a very pretty doll indeed, as was Deanna Durbin a very pretty lady.

Here's a couple more DeeAnna Dentons from my own image treasure trove...

This is a spoof time magazine cover I did which features a blond DeeAnna Denton and a Peggy Harcourt.
Image

This is another blond (straight hair) but another close-up on the face...
Image
This DeeAnna is wearing a Tonner lingerie item, and she's been re-bodied onto a 15-inch Tonner Teen body, but her face is as beautiful as ever.

If you do decide to go ahead with a DeeAnna Denton (or two) there is an outfit (if you can find one) that you may like for her, it's very in-keeping with the style of the era. The outfit is called Portrait of Glamour, here's an image from the Tonner Doll Company.
Image
The outfit is sold out at Tonner, but you can sometimes find it on Ebay.

Thanks for all this information. When I get some dollars together I may try this. I'm such a coward when it comes to altering dolls... just find it really hard to do anything to them, in case I wreck them.

The dress in the last picture of Peggy is stunning!
