Ashton Drake's Violet Waters in "Torch Song"

Postby werepuppy » Fri Aug 11, 2017 2:11 pm

Long story short: this was a fantastic eBay win at such a ridiculously low price I occasionally have to go back and check the details to make sure I did pay what I think I paid. Here's the thing though, the description on the auction said that the doll was used. This was fine with me. Doll arrives, and I open up the box to find... nothing has ever been removed from box. Now I really don't know what to do. She's utterly beautiful, and I'd love to set her free, but I don't know whether I should or not. Advice, anyone?

Sadly no pictures do justice to just how lovely her face is. She really is a darling of a doll - in my doll verse, I think she may be a friend to eldest of the Dreary family - I know Evangeline and her have similar taste in gowns, though the former leans slightly more to the gothic side, like her siblings...

I would liberate her. But then the value to me in my collection is being able to play with them and sod any resale value!

other opinions are equally valid :)

Free her! Unless I was keeping her with an eye toward reselling at some point I would take her out and play with her.

I'm all for taking her out too.

Dolls are meant to be played with! I'd say go for it. Its awesome that your "used" doll is practically brand new, though.

I remember as a kid my friend got a set of Cabbage Patch Cornsilk Kid twins. They were awesome! Brushable hair! But her mother REFUSED to let her remove them from the box! And I was like, "then what's the point of HAVING them?!?" lol

Same with another friend. She collected those Christmas edition Barbies and displayed them in their boxes and I never understood the point of not playing with them. I can see the appeal of that now, but I was one of those kids who used to drag my favorite porcelains around with me when we went on vacations and stuff. lol

I know people who collect Nendoroids and the like who'll buy 2 of each - one to keep pristine in the box and one to have out on display and play with (some will buy 3 so they have separate ones for play and display too). Which I can understand, but really isn't for me.

I do appreciate collectors who don't take things out of boxes when it comes to buying second hand though!

Just to let people know: I realised I could take dear Violet in and out of her box without upsetting anything. Which is pretty awesome because it means I've got a safe space to keep her, and keep that gorgeous gown from getting ruined.
