Dress Made from a Shirt

Postby OkamiKodomo » Mon Sep 19, 2011 4:20 pm

I... really don't know! XD I had this really pretty shirt that didn't fit me anymore. So I made a doll dress from it. Used some scrap fabric from my friend's project to make the petticoat, and the sleeve of another shirt to make the underskirt, but you can't see that part in these photos. The belt is scrap satin blanket trim from my old roommate's RenFaire cloak, and the mini eyelets came from scrapbooking supplies. I'm thinking I'll be making more like this. It came out rather nice.

AWESOME - I love to make doll clothing from human clothing! Such a great way to get unique fabrics and nicely finished edges.

That whole outfit looks absolutely fantastic - great job!

It looks amazing! Great job! And you had all of those little notions because of scrapbooking? I need to look into that!

@Greyhaunt: The serged edges actually were a part of the shirt design! I made the lower half from one of the sleeves, then trimmed the front with the hem of the shirt. The top has a lining made from the same shirt that the underskirt is made from, and there are 3 tiny snaps holding the top closed, hidden inside the bodice.

@fleacollar999: The little studs on the collar are actually from a different old shirt, but you can find similar ones in the scrapbooking department. The have a whole ton of different shape and color studs and eyelets. :) Those little gold ones are 1/8" or 3.1mm so roughly the same size as the largest of the eyelets you can get on the VolksUSA site, (they carry 2, 2.5, and 3mm eyelets) Incidentally, I just ordered some of the 2mm ones in gold and silver, so I'll do a comparison of the two, at some point. The gold flowers are actually bell-caps that I bought at a craft store years ago.

Haha, thank you! Now I'm just debating on if I should buy some red shoes to match, or put the dress up for sale, since Vorel was never meant to be a "lady in red" XD Her colors are gold and white.
