Something I've Always Wondered???

Do they make low end BJD bodies that would fit a 15" Tonner type doll? I've sat there converting CM to inches till I am blue in the face but I just cannot seem to figure it out. Spending several hundred dollars on a BJD body is just beyond me but I've got a couple of them that I've always wanted an ultra articulated doll body for. Has anyone ever put a Tonner on one? I've seen it done a lot with Barbie sized dolls, but never with the bigger fashion dolls. I was thinking of eventually transferring my MT dolls or my Tonners, but I want them to be the same size as they were, not smaller. I'd love to put a Tonner sized doll on a larger busted, ultra articulated body, but I'm just not sure it's possible.

Thanks!

ResinSoul have dolls that apparently fit into Tonner clothes, but I think the proportions would be off.

A possibility might be an R&D Angel - they are what DoA designates "fashion dolls" but they are articulated resin dolls (incredibly heavy for their size and slimness), and are of a very similar scale and proportions to Tonner. Mine is an earlier model that had the color "painted" on and had a few issues with colour chipping, but newer models have the resin dyed all the way through and are fully customisable. I could try a Brenda Starr head on mine, if it would help?

Importantly, they're not hugely expensive - the website says $110 naked.

There are also the Dollmore fashion models, which are lovely, but are taller at 16 inches so I don't know if the proportions would work. I've never handled one, so I can't tell you much about them. They are a bit pricier at $215 to $225 for an unsanded body, depending on whether you want magnet or tension arms, but still definitely at the lower end for bjds.

Vinyl-wise (which might be better with a vinyl head anyway), and most affordably - Horsman Vita might work. I don't know much about them except that they seem to be nicely articulated and beautiful bodies at 16 inches, and in December they are coming out with a nude Vita for $80, which makes them the most affordable option I could find. I am tempted myself, I need to figure out if they can squeeze into Gene clothes! :)

Lily is correct in saying the proportions would be off. Tonner dolls are of the type known as "Fashion Dolls" where what you have is a doll that is adult proportioned, only shorter.

Actual 1/4 scale BJD are meant to represent adolescents/teens and are much larger proportioned than the Tonner dolls. I'd photo comparison for you, but I don't own a Tonner - the closest I have is a Delilah Noir and I don't think she's that similar really.

I know there are a few members here who have both - hopefully one of them can put up a photo comparison so you can see why it wouldn't really work out.

I hate the Vita face but I like her body. Has anyone removed a Vita head? I've never removed a BJD head and I'm not sure how I can do that. Can it be done like with the Tonners? Or will it kill the whole doll if you go there? I'd actually love to get a couple of basics and put a couple of Gene's that I have on those. The Wu body is okay, but Vita's body is better.

The ones I've linked to are all more fashion doll proportions than traditional 1/4 MSD, so they should be okay proportion wise, but you never can tell for sure unless you try, sadly. It might be worth contacting Horsman and asking about Urban Vita? Or googling to see if anyone else has done it?

I've found another option, a resin bjd body that is actually *designed* to work with Tonner heads, neck plug and all - JAMIEShow. It's $190, comes in black or white skin tones. Never heard of them before today, but it might be the safest option yet! I did some googling, and people seem very happy with them as hybrids.

Sorry to double-post, but after a bout of temptation with Vita despite the less-than-ideal headsculpt (because I found one reduced to $50 and I was hoping she'd fit into Gene clothes to shell two characters of mine) I just want to say I googled for reviews... and found very few, but what I found was very negative. Posable, but cheap nasty plastic, described as "like a generic Barbie knockoff". I couldn't find measurements for her anywhere, anyway.

Yes, I held one at a vinyl doll show last year and was NOT impressed. The above is all correct!

I have a Vita and while they are light and 'plasticky' I wouldn't say they're THAT bad! If you can find one for $40 i'd say their worth it. They can out pose gene and tonner and they can indeed squeeze into most gene clothes but a word of warning, I dressed my poor vita in the red dress that comes default on one of them and it stained her terribly :C I'm thinking of buying some remove zit to see if the stains will come off but thats the reason you never see me post her in the forum.

I'd like to see her, stains or not!

It's the international shipping on top of the price that is making me dither. Packages from China and Korea tend to cost a lot less than packages from the US, I'm glad to see a better review, though.
