Floppy Bobobie Sprite

Postby Chrystal » Tue Jan 31, 2012 8:02 am

Hi.

My new bobobie sprite is very floppy - I have tightened the elastic. She does stand on her own. Are these dolls usually quite floppy? Please tell me if this is normal. How tight are they supposed to be strung? I have a hujoo dana doll and she is very tightly strung, but doesn't stand as well. I realize the dana doll is different and has gears.

Bobobie is notorious for its overly cheap elastic. Even if you get her tight, she'll keep flopping away until you replace it. Both Junkyspot and Mint on Card sell pre-measured elastic for 1/4 sized dolls.

You'll also probably want to suede the torso joint, as they tend to like to go floppy in that particular spot.

Sueding and wiring will take care of a lot, I waited a couple of years to restring my girl-but I wish I hadn't. She poses so beautifully now.

Yup, totally normal. It's called "The Bobobie Flop" As mentioned, you're going to need to replace the strings. Sueding and wiring will also help greatly.

Also Sueding and Restringing sound scary - but are actually really easy :) There are many youtube vids on restringing and my advice is to get a long piece of strong floral wire for pulling elastic through the body - makes it much easier :)

As for sueding, it sounds intimidating, but really all you need to do is gently put some low heat hot glue into the joint to cause a bit of extra friction - works miracles :)

I suede my Bobobies all over and it really does make them pose so much better. Do the sueding while you're restringing and it'll be a lot easier and don't fear the hot glue. It's low temp, which I spread around just with my finger and I haven't burned myself.
