My 1/4 dollhouse



Carly is demanding a decent place to live... and as she always gets what she wants, here I am building one. Instead of spamming the project thread, I decided to start my own, because I will probably be adding a LOT of pictures along the way while I'm working on Carly's apartment.

The house will have a kitchen, a hallway, a living room, a bedroom, a bathroom (although that one does not have priority and will be finished last) and a small spare room for future use. I'm building these rooms spread over three stories. The structure will be simple: it'll be just floors/ceilings and walls. By placing the walls in a particular way, I'll create doorways. I will not be adding actual doors and windows. I want the place to look as realistic as possible, but yeah, I'm lazy like that .

Each story floor is 100cm x 75cm (3'3" x 2'5") with a ceiling height of 55cm (1'8" feet). That means the total height of the building will be a little over 165cm (5'4"). As the building is built onto a table with a shelf underneath for storage boxes, which is about 45cm (1'5"), the total height of the structure will be almost 7 feet tall. Luckily (never thought I'd say 'luckily' in regards to my height...) I'm not short myself, I'm a 6'3" tall girl, but the building will still reach higher than me. It'll be about as tall as my dad is

Day 1 - August 9th

I mainly spent this day decorating some walls with white paint and checkerboard sticky plastic. As the paint took a long time to dry, it took me a while to continue working on my project.

Some actual construction work - August 20th

Yesterday, I glued some walls onto the kitchen floor. I also fortified them wherever possible by hammering in some nails. With... a... toy hammer XD. I have a normal hammer too but it's two stories down in our basement. Yeah... I can be quite determined when I want to have something finished, in this case my dollhouse even though it's boiling hot outside and inside, but I can be lazy when it comes down to the simple things . By the way, the tiny toy hammer works quite well . It must have looked funny in my big hands though.

The last wall will have to wait, I need to add curtains to it first (to hide the fact that there is no window at all, LOL!). Hopefully I'll get to that today (August 21st).

When the last wall is up, I'll turn the entire story over to fortify the rest of the glued walls with some nails.

Lazy?! I think you're incredible for getting this project going. I don't think I could ever have the patience to build 6 different rooms.

Nothing wrong with being tall but I'm only 5' 11" (180cm).
I'm enjoying following your dollhouse adventures. I just don't have the room to do something like that, especially at 1/3 scale. The darn furniture is big enough by itself.
My parents had a black and white tile floor in the kitchen of their first house. I do like those checkerboard walls.

I love that little cabinet!! What a great find! This will look so good when you finish it! And I do understand about spoiled dolls...

Thanks everyone for the awesome responses . Zircon, do you mean the grey storage cabinet? I love that find too, it's actually a tea box . Last spring Dutch supermarket chain Albert Heijn had the coolest stunt ever: they let their customers collect mini groceries. with a lot of help, I managed to collect them all and I even have some doubles. They help me make my kitchen look real in an instant

Wow, that sounds great- the mini-groceries. All we ever get here in the USA at Safeway are dishes (for big people) and pots and pans and such. Never anything fun like mini-groceries!
It is going to be incredible, I can't wait to see the finished project!
