Ever Seen One Of These?

This is an 18" Charly doll by a company called Durham. She's a sort of a contemporary to Tiffany Taylor but she's more the girl next door than a supermodel type. There's an 11" version of her out there too and that's pretty easy to find actually but I've only seen a couple of these 18" ones. I got her for like $12 shipped. She was a total impulse buy. I bid $6 which was the minimum and won her. Nobody wanted her but me. :D I doubt anyone knew who she even was. I was on there looking for a cheap Tiffany Taylor actually because I kind of want one and saw her. She'd make a nice pal for Tiffany when I get her so I figured why not? They're the same size, can swap clothes and shoes, and unlike most 18" pseudo dolls (like Crissy) they're not cute or childlike. They both have a 20 something look although Tiffany looks a lot more sophisticated. In a way dolls like this are the forerunner of the Gene doll, the Tonners and the like.

This is a blond on Flickr:

and here is the doll I won. She's in very nice shape, still has a box though it's torn. Very nice face paint for one of these. I'm particularly liking that she's the brunette. The blond never did do much for me and likely I'd have wigged her anyway. That dress has got to go though I'm glad she has some shoes. The dress that's hideous. She rather reminds me of another younger little doll, but I can't think who at the moment. I want to say Sindy, but I don't think that's it.

Info, but there's not much out there...

The face paint is amazingly well done. Congrats on getting her so cheap as well. That's always a nice bonus when you can get a nice doll for a low price. :)

She's gone through a bit of a metamorphosis this doll since she came to me. Her hair was coarse and rooted pretty badly so I ditched it in favor of a pink, brunette and blond MT wig that fits her beautifully. It totally transformed and compliments her, I think. She and Loralei and I have been going through the doll boxes trying on clothes for a week or so. She's about the size of a 17" Barbie only a little taller so there's some Tonner type stuff that fits her. Her feet though we've had problems with. She just doesn't fit into much and her own shoes broke the first time I took them off. They were total crap. I was scratching my head over who she reminded me of though for a while. It was really bugging me and then I realized it was this actress, Julia Stiles, the one from the original Prince and Me movie. See? Doesn't she? That's funny considering she's several years older than Stiles....
