La Lorifina...

Postby magkelly » Fri Dec 21, 2012 1:27 pm

My Lori arrived today and I am duly impressed. About the only thing I could have wished for with this girl is articulated hands. She's BIG compared to most of the dolls I have, but otherwise she's pretty darned perfect, IMHO. Just gorgeous. Has anyone experimented with what clothes and shoes might fit her? I found out Teen Trends shoes do and from what I can tell Tonner boy shoes would because the wine purple TT boots do fit my Tonner boys, that much I know. But otherwise I'm not sure. Any BJD shoes out there that might? I don't know what size she'd be like. Her feet are much bigger than Delilah Noir so sharing any of her stuff is out unfortunately.

She came with her nightie outfit, the red heels, leggings, and a pair of shorts, but there are a couple of pairs of boots I've seen on Ebay that I'd like to have if maybe I could get them elsewhere. I've got one pair of gold sparkle shoes supposedly made for Ms Revlon that almost fit her and would do if I made slides out of them. I probably will because there's no other doll I own that they work for anyhow, but I want to see if that mod fashion doll I got can wear them before I go there. So far she's got the red heels, blue TT flats, wine purple TT boots and maybe a pair of Harry Potter's loafers that might pass for girl shoes. So not bad, but she will need a few more pairs to have a proper shoe wardrobe. I love her convertible feet though. It makes it a lot easier to plan for her.

Her wig is nicely colored and soft, but a bit flyaway. I'm going to try several wigs I have otherwise and see how it goes, but I think I probably have half a dozen wigs to fit her so she's going to do okay with that. She wears about a 9-10 I think. She's about a size bigger than Delilah who wears a 7-8. Anyway still playing so more later. I still have to raid the doll closet and see what fits her, maybe take some pics...

I'll have some for you later today probably. Right now she's still in her undies, lol. I'm working on sewing up a skirt for her. I finally found a 70's Crissy doll sweater in cream that works but almost nothing in my bins fits this girl. It's too cold for shorts so I finally resorted to making her something. I'm about half way through sewing her up a plaid skirt. I did find some flat black patent MJ shoes that fit though and she has a few wigs now so that's nice. I spent most of last night cutting and styling various wigs for her. So far she has a black curly wig, a couple of blond curly wigs long and short, and an auburn wig plus her original long blond wig which I restyled a bit in front to try to make her bangs look a bit better. She looks adorable in curls. She seems to like the blond wigs best but I like her in the black and in the auburn ones better.

The original is a soft, pretty wig but I'm not crazy about it. It responds very badly to static electricity and humidity in the air and it gets very messy very quickly. So do the mohair ones but not as badly so for now she's wearing one of those. I actually removed it from the soft plastic base so I could use it for an all purpose wig cap. She needs it. Without it her skull looks a little odd and sunken in the back. I was disappointed to realize that her scalp is totally solid under it. I was hoping that when I took the wig cap off it would open up her skull so I maybe could soften whatever glue was in there and sometimes change out her eyes, but apparently not. It's solid, thick molded plastic. There will be no getting into it at all. It's okay though. The blue of her eyes is really lovely.

Somewhere in my fabric bins I've got some red fabric with white dots like her shoes. I'm going to have to look for it but when I find it I'm going to make her a cute sun dress out of that to match her heels which are red with red bows that have white polka dots or at least a skirt, I haven't quite decided. So far the big doll BFC doll clothes are the closest to her size but most of that is just a bit too short to be practical and the basic 18" doll clothes I have are too wide. I haven't tried any of the pants as yet because they are all on my Tonner boys. They might fit actually because she's almost as tall as Peter Pevensie only she's thinner and sized almost like the Matt sized boys. The pants will probably be a bit big for her but will probably work because they fit my other boys very well and they're a bit too small for Peter. BFC skirts and shirts though are just too short for her to wear though they fit otherwise. She did fit the Harry Potter loafers just barely. Like the TT shoes they're very tight but workable in a pinch. I'm kind of wondering if Tonner Hermione's clothes or the Tonner Narnia Susan's clothes might not work for her though. I've never seen either in person but she seems like she might be a similar size to those to me only maybe a bit thinner.

She's really right between clothing sizes so outfitting her is going to mean sewing up some things or altering them. She's going to be work this doll but I don't mind. I'm not usually into dolls this big but I totally fell in love with her. This doll is just beautiful and she's got such a sweet face and personality. She really talks to me. BTW, I'm calling her Loralei. It just really seems to fit her.

More later... :)

It's Loralei and Serafina, my two Lori dolls. Serafina should be here this week, probably TH. I'm waiting on her for pics. I don't know what my nice is going to call hers but I guess she'll have her own ideas on that one. I wanted them to be derivative of the type of doll, a Lorifina, but I also wanted them to have their own names and personalities. Loralei is a dollie siren so that totally fits and Serafina looks like she's fiery, so that also fits, at least I hope it does. I'm still not sure of how many skin and eye tones there were on these dolls. I've seen bright blue eyes, light blue eyes, green eyes and brown eyes. Light skin, tan skin and what I think might actually be a darker AA skin, but I'm not sure on that.

Sometimes you take a photo of the tan doll and it looks darker I think, and the wig color choice makes a huge difference too. My Lori looks extremely different with every wig I try on her. But there are pics of a large collection on Flickr where it does look like there might have been an actual AA skin tone. I think my Serafina looks more Latina to me than AA in the pics I have but I'm just not sure if they actually made a doll with darker skin than hers. Serafina looks pretty light to me for an AA doll. More like a girl with a carmel tan than a noticably AA girl. There was a reference in a discussion as to a medium tone skin so that makes me think that there were 3 colors of skin maybe. But there are definitely more shades of eyes than I thought at first. At least two blues...

I'm totally obsessing on these dolls. My Poor D's. Here they are the supposed official crew of new Christmas dolls, my first BJD's and I'm here sewing for and obsessing on dolls without half their mobility and flexibility!!! Not that they lack clothes to wear they are all dressed but really given that they were the big Christmas gift and all I should be playing way more with them than with these Lori's but the past couple of weeks it's been all about the Lori's around here. I'm so bad!!!

There were 3 skin tones!!! It's not just me thinking that the one photographs darker. So that means I have one light, one medium and I have yet actually to see the very dark one for sale anywhere so that means if I want one it might take me a while to find one and cost a fair bit more. I'd like, but I'm not sure I'd ever actually pay anything near original full price for one of these so I probably won't. I just may have another light blond haired one with green eyes coming though.

One of my vendor friends out at the flea market here spotted one and went to dicker for it for me. She is seriously lacking in accessories and clothes. She's naked in her box, but otherwise she's in good shape he says. I'm thinking he'll get her for me for $20 or less but I won't know till the weekend. I'll be happy to have her whatever she's lacking and I told him that. So long as she's got all her body parts intact I'm perfectly cool with no clothes et all. Wigs I got. Clothes I can make, shrug.

$20 is fine for that though knowing him he won't let me pay him for it. He never does. He's a buddy, him and his wife are. I do a lot of stuff for him for his business out there, photo editing, flyers et all. I never charge him hardly anything unless it's a big job so he usually gets me dolls for free. Could be I won't have to pay a dime for her, except to buy her an outfit maybe...
