I Love You Mel Odom....

I think I just got a break in my ennui.

RESIN GENE, finally, wahooo!!!!! I just found out about it. Pics popping up here and there from Idex, but I haven't actually seen them all yet. Now THIS is exciting. Jamie Show is producing. Hot DAMN, that means Gene and Co will likely have great bodies and will look great! I can't wait to see this. I love Mel for this. I really do. I missed his crew. Don't know that I can afford them in resin but if I can, I'm getting one at least.

Eh, $550? Figures. Way out of my league, sigh...

The first one is already sold out and there is a second one on the way supposedly. FDQ is supposed to be sponsoring this one. I kind of hope there is because I hated to see the end of Gene and Co and I like the idea that she is back in any form, but $550 a pop? I can't see myself going there and if they're going to make them all exactly like this I don't think even if I had the $$$ I'd go there because after looking at some pics I believe she still has painted eyes. At least it looks like she does. She's resin and she might have a wonderful body and ball joints but what's the sense of a $550 BJD that doesn't at least have inset glass eyes? Yeah, she's cast in something better than vinyl. But there's no guarantee that whatever resin they cast her in won't yellow like the vinyl dolls did. Likely it will, and everyone that is hoping that they won't is likely to be disappointed.

I've always wanted a BJD Gene, a Madra, and a Violet with heads that come off and eyes you can change out. Those 3 they were the reason I got into the bigger dolls. Why I ended up becoming such a fan of the 16" fashion and character dolls, but this is just Gene done in better plastic and with a slightly nicer body. Most dolls I've seen like this they've at least had glass eyes. This is just not worth the upgrade at $550 I don't think.

She's lovely and I'm not saying she's not but for $550 I'd expect far more in terms of her eyes. I've been watching the posts on the boards too and it doesn't look like she's all that posable actually considering. Bring this girl out with swappable eyes as well as wigs, give her some inset eyes and a better range of motion and I might think she was worth several hundred dollars, but not as she is. Sorry, but I'll just have to admire her and pass.

One of the projects I want to do with my rotary tool is to take a couple of Gene line girls and give them glass eyes. I've looked at getting it done and would cost $80-100 to get one doll done. I'm thinking I'd like to do it myself. I'm going to practice on less expensive dolls first but at some point I am going to try doing it for real on a Gene or a Madra just to see if I can. I've seen it done and it looks gorgeous.
