Before really getting into dolls my standards were pounds and inches. Now this site is my new best friend. http://www.worldwidemetric.com/measurements.html XD
I'm mostly on Tumblr now.

LOL, measurement conversion for the win. I use some approxmate conversions like 2.5 cm is about a inch and so, which isn't dead accurate but close enough. At least for finding out wig sizes and such. But being the foreigner I am, I always think cm to inches, not the other way around . And with pounds and kilograms, I kinda gave up on that one XD

Weights and Measures....

Since most BJDs come from Asia, most everything surrounding them is Metric. Before I bought my first 1/3 scale doll, I stared at the yard/meter stick a lot. But once I had one and measured it, I had a frame of reference and I just got used to comparing everything in their (the doll's) world in metric. There is the exception of wig sizes. A lot of wigs seem to be listed in English sizes (7"-8, 8"-9", etc.). A hold over from an older industry perhaps?

As for weight, it really wasn't much of an issue for me. But if you want to get an idea of actual weight, look in your kitchen cupboard or fridge. Most food products that are sold by weight list their weight in English and Metric. Like my 32oz. box of rice (when it was full) is 907gm, heavier than my Obitsus and half the weight of Theo's Mio.

(You hear that Di? You're light for your size.)

The weight is the reason I love my 50cm Obitsu gals so much. Super posable and lightweight.
Not that I'm saying Olivia is heavy...don't want to give her a complex or anything.

"Don't worry, resin boys and girls! It is perfectly normal for you to be heavier than your vinyl friends of similar height and build. If you were the same weight as them, you would break down in a matter of seconds. Your vinyl friends are a different species even if they look like resin-it would be unnatural and unhealthy for us to be that light."

It sounds, word for word, like you read my Health textbook!
Seriously, you just switch around a few words and it's exactly the same...

Lols, you crazy Americans clinging onto your outdated measuring system. I don't think any other country really uses the Imperial system any more...

As much as I want one, I don't think it will be anytime soon I get a big doll. There are too many smaller (and cheaper) dolls that I want first. But at least now I am open to the idea of having one someday. Of course now I am confused if I should get a resin tiny or a vinyl big when I eventually save up the almost 300 those cost.

Also I am mystified how some little 10/11 year old girl got her hands on not just one but 2 Lorifinas, which was only sold online as far as I know. I think the fact that the Hasbro headquarters are in RI might have something to do with it. Perhaps one of her parents work for Hasbro.

[nerd mode] I must have a talent for sounding like boring school textbooks. [/nerd mode]

Back on topic: it's a good thing that there are affordable dolls in this hobby that one can make an army of. I have a feeling that over half of the new people would have been scared away by price tags if that wasn't the case.

Mio got a few chuckles out of this discussion ... and she asked me to pass something along to your Diamond

'I dont have a problem with my weight ... not when I look This good' :D
