I don't have a big doll yet but according to what people said about Volks's vinyl stuff vs Obitsus, I would pick the obitsu ones. Dollfie Dreams are cheaper but Obitsus don't cost that much more and you get what you pay for, right? And then Volks do sell just the outer vinyl parts (not the joints or anything) which could be hybrided with Obitsus I guess...And then they sell the heads as well, which could also be hybrided onto an Obitsu, so long as you don't get the Volks white skin. (Personally, I think the price is a bit much, I mean, $30 something for a head? But if one prefers that, sure.)
The ever growing wishlist: Hujoo Dana, Obitsu 40, and an army of other Obitsus with anime style heads.
The more expensive end of my wishtlist: Limhwa Half Elf and Elfdoll Soah, my dream dolls.

The volks heads are about $42. Obitsu is actually a little cheaper in the parts dept.

For the full doll they are pretty much the same price. Shipping from Emory is cheaper and he includes free gifts so in the end Obitsu bodies are cheaper :)

.....$42? That sounds like a lot for a vinyl head...or maybe I'm just used to seeing the more affordable (not sure about the price range in the vinyl part but anyway) obitsu stuff in JS.

It's a lot lol. It is way overpriced in my opinion. I'm not sure if it's just that the shipping to the US costs more or not. On the Volks USA site a blank spare head is $42. Yes. I like Obitsus more because they are more affordable. It's more like 20-25 a head. I do eventually want to try a volks head though because they do really cute anime ones. But that's only if i can find a deal lol.

I like the obitsu designer head which looks very anime in my opinion and quite affordable, and I want to get a muffin head which has possibililties for looking anime considering that they have the poiny narrow noses and all. But the 04 volks head or something is cute as well, too bad that they don't sell the close eyed version which probably can be cut out and is cheaper than the pre cut eyehole head. Maybe an abused Dollfie Dream head will make their way to a marketplace, who knows...

I love the designer head too...as well as the princess head. too cute. I see myself purchasing these to paint in the future. I can't keep them since I can't buy the bodies but any funds from them will go to a good dollieh cause lol. I jsut want to paint them...I esp want to do a closed eye and opened eyed set of the Princess head.

You all have seen lots of my Obitsu pics. Here are some of my DDs:

Now a couple of comparison pics of the larger bust bodies - Makoto and Miu in their swimsuits:

As far as price goes, it all depends on what you get and what you want to pay. If you get secondhand bodies and heads or paint your own (or get them painted), instead of buying uber-limited character dolls...then DDs aren't that expensive. I have found several of mine for far less than a complete finished set from Parabox.

It also depends on how well they are cared for as to how well they pose. As others say, the thing with Obitsus is that you can replace the internal parts from the company. With Volks, you have to reply on aftermarket suppliers.

My personal opinion is that the Volks DDs are a better body sculpt and Obitsu has better internal technology. I like Obitsu heads for 'realistic' faces and Volks for anime (with a few exceptions).

I love all of my ladies (and one fella). The blend perfectly to me.

What is this head? Are those painted on eyes or inserted eyes?

And I don't mind blended families- my vinyl dolls happily interact with my resin ones, and Prima and Niki, my power couple, have a "mixed marriage" of vinyl and resin:

I think somewhere else she was named the Volks Alna. (Yes I memorized it cause she struck me as well. She's so beautiful.) She is wearing animetic eyes from volks as well. (I know a lot for not owning any volks DD lol I just lust after this stuff.)

Augh....I think one day I might have to try to get an Alna. She is so beautiful. You can only get her by lottery in the USA but I'm not sure about dolpas.

I always adored the Volks stuff when I first got into dolls, but now I've moved away from an anime-doll preference. Something I can't place just dosen't work for me. Except that Alna, is actually very stunning... (dolls sucking me back in..... oh noes!!!)
A hobby isn't supposed to leave you wistful, regretful and vaguely disappointed. BJD collecting is as customizable as the dolls themselves. Do whatever pleases you the most, because otherwise, why do it at all? All for the 'Gram Bitches love the 'Gram.
