Oooh those handmade eyes are temptingly spectacular... hrmmm aw man you're being v.v.tempting with those photos - they're a pretty unique colour combo, and they look fantastic! (Yep still in awe of your many and various artistic skills!)

...Right necro-thread of doom!! Finally got around to painting these guys up so photos abound! These are in no particular order (Well the order that flickr decides to let me see them I suppose!)

Akagi Ban - despite my plans for this head, it v.quickly became obvious once I started painting that "He" was in fact a she. One of my female characters swooped in and claimed the sculpt - so meet Rex; metallurgist for Rolls Interstellar, punk and gamer nerd. She totally stole the rainbow wig and look the planned character (a snobby heir) was going to have so god knows what shell he's going to end up with... I'm leaning towards the Mirodoll 70cm female body for her, despite the weird rickets-legs it's got going on in company photos - it's tall gangly frame is perfect for the punky Rex!

Image
(Awesome wig details it's a Spite and Malice commission - she did a fantastic job on this thing!)
Image
I'm contemplating giving her a layer of black lip-liner around her mouth just to finish off/neaten up the look - but I'm a bit concerned that it'd end up looking clownish...

Bowie MNM - the likeness of the sculpt is definitely fantastic. It's just a shame that my "skills" don't reflect that. He's going to end up on the Dollshe DSAM35 body and will get the full Thin White Duke era costume/wig. I gave him his guyliner from the era, but I'm horribly aware that the man himself's was more subtly done than this!

Trying on a couple of wigs here (Hippy-wig and Thin White Duke-esque hair style (Poor Drax it seems everyone ends up wearing his hair!):
Image
I used quite a few (excellent) photos for reference here, and don't think I quite managed a good likeness. Oddly despite having gorgeous orange/blonde hair in this era Bowie's eyebrows were brown/black in photos.

Mephistopheles Smith:
http://www.theshocktreatmentnetwork.com/richard-m.JPG

I tried to recreate the look in the photo above ...but copying slightly shoddy makeup onto a v.cartoony face... I don't think it quite works (that and I really need to learn how to paint teeth - this sculpt has a mix of totally flat cartoony teeth and moulded canines in the corners that means my attempt at just using a wash failed... :? )

The slightly ill-fitting headcap on the IOS Jaguar sculpt is a tad unfortunate considering I intend to keep this head bald...

He got to try on Nicky/Sam's body for size... Yea no it's far too bulky for the character, though the colour match isn't bad - shame that Dollzone is infamously unstable wrt resin colour
Image

...And finally the head I'm the most nervous about since the style is aiming to vaguely resemble the look of the Paul Kidby illustrations rather than look pretty in the traditional BJD sense. Myrretah's gorgeous Cain sculpt as my version of Sam Vimes. I suspect he's going to get another attempt at a face sooner rather than later - this style is so new to me that I need practice, and I think I want to redo his eyebrows - I was aiming for neutral brows that can look angry at the right angle, but I think I ended up with pensive!
Image
If anyone is contemplating this head for themselves I'd really recommend it - the resin is gorgeous to work with, and Myrretah herself is absolutely lovely. I just hope these photos do it some justice.

Image
This sculpt really IS my Vimes - the likeness to my in-head vision of the character is uncanny - and well it even has the scar! In my head the scar healed, but still looks angry as opposed to to the silvery-white of true healing.

A copper is never off-duty...
Image
Hrmm apologies here - that isn't really his wig or his eyes. I've yet to settle on a colour for his eyes though I am leaning towards the brown end of the spectrum. As for the wig - I think that's going to end up being another Spite and Malice commission since the cut I'm after is short and greying...

I'll post photos of my two Dollshe floating heads tomorrow - the light vanished as I was taking these photos!

They all look good to me.

In slightly more detail

I love Rex's wig and face up - she's got great attitude going on there. I think the black lip liner would work if you did a very fine line.

I can't think of anything to say about the Bowie sculpt and face up except that it looks like Bowie! Are you going to change one of his eyes to having a larger pupil? (I've just realised what was throwing me a little about it)

With Mephistopheles Smith - I see what you mean about that style makeup on that style of sculpt, but you have ended up with a face up that bears an obvious resemblance to the character and the actor.

Vimes - wow! Just utterly wow. You've done a brilliant job with him. He's Sam Vimes. I love the shadows under his eyes, the scar, all of it.

Thanks so much!! :D I'm really glad that you think Vimes looks good - the aesthetic is just so different to my norm that I just wasn't sure if it was working or not. (Slightly awkwardly the doll that shelled Havelock is hyper-realistic as far as bjds go... And now Vimes looks like he stepped out of the Paul Kidby illustrations so they don't really match each other)

Thanks - I'm really glad the attitude of Rex's character comes across, even when she's just a head sitting on a tub of paint thinner! Yea I think I'm going to sleep on the lip-liner idea, I think it'll need to be a fine layer of acrylic - it'll be difficult to just wipe the top layer if it goes wrong!

I'm glad you think he actually looks like Bowie! I know the sculpt is definitely there but I was so stupidly nervous about attempting to mimic a real human being in the face-up sense that it took me a really stupidly long time to work up to painting him! ...Hrmm the eyes are actually different sized pupils (they're actually a mismatched pair of an eyeco 11mm and a Soom 12mm) but I think it's too subtle a difference to show up in photos v.well. I think I may need to find someone who makes customs in every sense - large whites and small iris/pupil area.

Hah thanks again! I think it sort of works but I'm not sure. Yea I think he sort of looks like a psycopathic version of the Mephistopheles Smith rather than the playful/loveable/lustable demon that ROB created.

I have a Cain head, too! His face is so emotional. It's great seeing him wearing that scruffy hair and sweater. I love the way you did the teeth! May I ask you which body you are using for yours?

Thanks!! :D (I'd love to see your Cain! Hint Hint! Seriously he's such a wonderful sculpt there isn't enough of him around) He's on the Dollzone 65cm body there - I needed a fairly short doll for him, since he had to be shorter than my Havelock (who was ~69cm) and well that particular body just somehow has an attitude about it that a lot of them lack.

Thank you for your reply! I don't have a body for mine yet. For my character, I think I'm going to go as tall as I can get away with. Cain's have pretty big noggins! To me, they are the most "illustration- like" sculpt around, and I love the way your guy embodies that esthetic!
