Well, you could look at it this way: I'm 5'9" and my best friend in high school was 5'1". That's almost the same ratio as the 60 cm doll to the 50 cm doll. So in real life, people don't always exactly match up either. The bad thing would be that they couldn't share clothes, although they could share shoes.

I also wish that Parabox did heads that already had faceups and not just in the body sets. *sigh* I wish, I wish, I wish.

You could get kiki-chan to do the face-up for you. :)

It seems that I may be looks at a 60cm obitsu with a big bust at this point if Miu falls through. Crud, with the price of her...I may could get a 50cm and a 60cm! Hee hee. I will just have to figure out heads and bits. I like the idea of being able to replace the pieces because we do "play" with the dolliehs in our house. They are not display figures.

Mine have been on boats, airplanes, to the beach, up trees, etc. They are definitely not display figures and they get pretty hard usage.

if you have the old style Gretel head withOUT eye pocket, can you get a larger eye size in it and if so, how much larger? If I don't have a DD, I definitely want an anime style head to swap out occasionally.

You can put whatever size you want in it- definitely 18-20 cm. Just remember that less of the white will show.

Misheru - if you like the VMF Risa head and want to put one on a regular 50cm body I have one that has the default faceup. PM me if you are interested :) Just as a note, I'm not sure how good it would look on a 60cm body, but I could give it a try.

They are pretty simple to make yourself if you do any sewing. I made one for my tiny DZ Leo because he was ALWAYS going to be in black and his nickname is 'Pocket Trouble' for a reason. I figured staining was a high possibility. Just get a pair of white tights, put the doll in and pin the fabric as snug as you want the bodysuit to fit. Remove doll, clip extra fabric and sew. Also works great for making dollie tights/stockings, etc. ^___^

I personally prefer the hinge-joints (or what I refer to as friction-joints) for the range of motion they allow. Even though they aren't as pretty, they do allow the doll to touch their own shoulder. Currently, I've got three large obitsus, two of them have the hinge-joints, and one is a 50cm.

Yup, all of the 50cm fullsets that have been released by obitsu have had the same head... the default. Here's my default 50cm head (I took the ears off since it's supposed to be a neko). The head next to it is the obitsu 'designer' head, which is the one I spoke about before, same sculptor, just slightly larger.

You can reasonably go from a 14mm to an 18mm eye in a classic gretel, though I prefer 16mm eyes in that head. Here's a gretel with 14mm, and 16mm, respectively.

Since it's also a little hard to visualize them together based JUST from their measurements, here's a shot of a Volks DD2, Obitsu 50cm, and Obitsu 60cm (friction joints).

This is exactly why I want to put up a Obitsu display for CCBJD 2011 so people can ask questions about them vs resin BJDs..

and how they can all be mixed and matched with a little modding wee!

Another good reason to stalk Yahoo Japan Auctions. Occasionally those full sets are "parted out" by their owners. I have seen the school girl uniform and the black dress from the first two Obitsu 50cm fullsets sold separately.

And I LOVE the Yamato Risa. LOVE her. Her face reminds me of Hubby's favorites little dollieh - the Volks WTG Kana? I cannot remember her real name because she has always been CBD May to him.

Yamato has a new anime style head with replaceable eyes, not the painted on ones, in the works. No information on release date yet.

I am also intrigued at the idea of the 'beauty' of the 60cm BJD joints. I have yet to see them in person and perhaps I have am automatic dislike of the actual 'ball' due to the seeming visual similarity to the fashion BJDs like Devas and Sybarites (which I hate the way their joints looks, esp the hips). From photos alone, I like the way the other 60cm body looks. Yeah, I am weird. LOL. But Hubby is the one that drew my attention to it.

It took me a while to get over the "look" of all the dolls' joints (ball and hinge) too. Some of the "exploding knees and elbow" on resins still bug me. Sure, the upper and lower leg fold back on top of each other but to accomplish that the knees look like some horrible compound fracture injury.

I know all about staining. Ugh. Do you guys use bodystockings? I know Volks is always out of stock, but other folks make them, don't they?

I've pretty much accepted the fact that my dolls will get stained. I do what I can to prevent it and/or slow the process down, but with a lot of clothing a body stocking just isn't practical. Besides, in the long term a bodystocking is just going to slow the staining process down not stop it completely. Fortunately most of the Obitsu vinyls are replaceable and available.

Hello again!

Wow..even more great stuff to mull over. :D I love you guys!

I also wish that Yamato USA would stock the dolls. They never even answered my inquiry. But I can either work with an agent or with the standard bodies with the time comes. And thanks so much Greyhaunt. I will be in touch. I love her face because she reminds me so much of Kana.

I also appreciate the recommendations of the faceup artists. Like I said, I can do basic things but consider myself a self-taught amateur. I have been admiring the work and photos on the forum.

Thanks also about the bodystocking tips. I know that staining is inevitable. I am not that worried but I do like black. Hehe.

Shout out to kiki for the comparison pics! That really helps a lot. I like the size of a 60cm, but if I don't get the DD lottery...I think I am looking at a 50cm Obitsu. I just love the doll.

Quick question on clothing for those bodies (either standard or yamato) - will MSD clothes of any kind fit? I am not that familiar with BJD clothing at all (MSD, MDD, SD10, SD13...I am learning and getting confused :o). Also, are their feet the same size as as the 60cm or do they take different shoes?

Thanks again. <3

Speaking of Yamato dolliehs...I saw this one on their blog. Has she been released yet? I think it is Mari:
