Assemble Obitsu from parts?

Postby PerlaNemesis » Thu Jun 16, 2011 12:57 pm

I'm sorry if this question sounds dumb, but is it possible to assemble all doll from body parts that are being sold here? This thought occurred after seeing this tutorial about disassembling 60cm body.

Yes it is possible to assemble an Obitus from parts.Everything for the 47/55/60cm bodies is available. The place in your first link (Hobby Link) appears to be sold out of many parts. The source for your second link (Parabox) is also a retailer of Obitsu parts and has everything most of the time. Their prices yen-dollar look to be about the same.

I've never priced out building a body entirely from parts so I can't say if it's cheaper or more expensive than just buying a whole body. But if you wanted a real mix of say, 55cm and 47cm parts in one body, buying the separate parts might be the way to go.

I guess you should research if all the pieces are available. To be honest I had tihs idea before too but once you add up the price, It doesn't actually cost less than buying a whole doll. A whole doll is 230 or 250. Lets average out each part to be about $15 (price for pieces range from 9-21.

You need for external parts (2 part torso and I chose the cheapest parts not necessarily the ones that fit together):
1) Bust $12
2) Lower leg $16
3) Thighs $18.20
4) forearm $9
5) Upper arms $9.5
6) Pelvis $14
7) Hands $ 8
8) Feet $16.50

You need for skeleton as far as I can figure:
1) Leg frame (the sticks) $10.50
2) Knee joint $26
3) Elbow joint $22
4) I dont see the arm sticks but you need em. $8?
5) SHoulder joint $16
6) Wrist Joint $16
7) Ankle Joint $16
8) Pelvic Joint $9.25
9) Groin Joint ( The two ball areas above the thighs $21
10) Abdominal stick thing (you probably could make these but that is extra time on your hands) $5
11) Bust joint $11
12) Neck Joint $7

I might be missing some parts from the skeleton.

so 12 + 8 = 20. 20 *15 = 300.

So...why would you want to build it from parts? Even if you were going for a mixed doll, it would be cheaper and easier to get an entire base body, and the extra parts then sell the unused parts.

(Also if you order from JS, the dolls usually come with a head and also a magnet base so add about 22 dollars to all that.)

EDIT: I actually did add up the monetary amounts and it came to about $271 for the necessary parts which may or may not be the right ones. I chose the cheaper parts for each type. I am curious about this too and I know I researched it a while ago and came to the conclusion it isn't worth it. This is without the head or magnet plate so if you add $6 for the plate and lets say the cheaper blank head for about $12.50 it would be near $300 without shipping for possibly all the parts and then you would have to spend time piecing it together and you might also get parts that don't fit if you don't know which ones to order.

I just did a calculation for all the needed parts to build a 50cm body and it comes down to $330 on Parabox, so it's more expensive than buying an assembled body, but that's what I expected to be honest.

Yah....Granted I got a large bust part in anticipation of one day owning a 60cm but that's fine because they don't come with large busts. So my girl can now be on a bust with a marker holding her head in place lol.

K2! Thank you for answer. ^^
landwhale I know that buying from parts is more expensive but that way I can get the doll I want through a year or two without spending all my money at once and then being totally broke again. You see anything above $50 is almost beyond my reach. I can't even buy Moxie Teenz because they cost very much. So, I figured that this would be the best solution for me. Thank you very much for your list. It really helped me. Another thing is that shipping costs very much from both JS (I live in Europe) and Parabox (this is only good if I would buy anything over $150 or between $120 and $149.99).
