Hello,

So I'll be getting my very first resin BJD(an Asleep Eidolon), I have 4 Dollfie Dreams(Vinyl) but have no experience with Resin dolls and am a little worried about care/maintenance.

Ca anyone give me tips to keep my girl in top condition?

Mainly- keep your hands clean and oil free, and keep her out of light as much as possible. Resin picks up oils much more readily than vinyl and it seems to soak in more. Also, resin is actually pretty sturdy, but it can chip or snap. So take extra care with fingers, and make sure you never leave them where they can fall or they might chip.
I love resin for the way it looks, but I love vinyl because it isn't kicky and doesn't collapse when you pose it.

Sorry, I wasn't kidding when I said I'm completely oblivious when it comes to resin BJDs lol

LOL - don't worry, you'll pick it all up

Because resin dolls are held together by elastic strung inside them they are not as stable and sturdy in posing always as vinyl dolls are. Depending on if the stringing is too tight or too loose you get phenomenon such as collapsing and kicking.

Collapsing is just what it sounds like. One minute your doll is standing just fine, the next moment it's doing a faceplant on the floor. I've had a Dollzone MSD size doll do a faceplant off of the top of my TV set - fortunately nothing broke!

Kicking happens when the legs are too tight, so you have the doll laying there in front of you and you're trying to dress it and all of a sudden, WHAP the leg swings up and bonks you. There are other variations on "kicking" as well, but it's all about how tight the elastic string inside is. Don't let this discourage you though - some dolls show up perfect from Day One

lol resin dolliehs have a tendency for their limbs to "kick" into place because of the elastic string... the tighter stringing that lends to better posing can make this problem worse. My RS Jun on the single jointed body is horrible for this. Changing his pants or shoes is a chore.

Don't let the kickiness or collapsing possibilities scare you too much lol. Sueding, (adding a bit of hot glue or silicone kips) or wiring, (inserting thin wire into the arm and leg channels), generally helps to correct it...as does proper elastic tension of course! Just bear in mind that you'll have to eventually tighten and restring your girl's elastics...and rememebr that it's not nearly as scarey as it seems like it'll be lol

Fire is very good for cleaning off those excess oils on resin.

Thank you so much for all the tips everyone! The restringing sounds a little daunting but I'll worry about that when I cross that bridge.

There is a new book you can get on amazon.com called "BJDs for Beginners" and it has a lot of helpful information in it. Maybe you can ask Santa to bring it for you.

None of the stuff we have talked about is hard, it's just scary when you first start. You'll get used to it. You can't beat the beauty of resin, though (I don't care what K2! says, lol). My dream doll would be one that had the beauty of resin with the posing of vinyl.

Oh- and when I talk about vinyl I mean Obitus- I don't have any DDs and I understand Obitsu posing is a bit better.
