The New Niki- Obitsu 65 Male

Niki has a new look! I wanted to go All-Vinyl for the Doll House, so Niki (formerly Elfdoll Red) has been reshelled into a new body and head- the Obitsu 65 male.

Yes, there are some problems with this doll, as you may have heard. K2! got him off of Yahoo Japan Auctions and worked on his shoulders extensively before sending him on to me. Today I barely moved his arm and it snapped off at the elbow (the joint was frozen, for some reason). His arm is taped for now and I will figure out how to fix it. I think the problem is that they use the same size joints for this big guy as in the 60 cm dolls, and they simply are not beefy enough.

Added picture- his head now pushed down into it's proper position on the neck piece.

Niki is kind of a laid-back surfer, so it's going to take some experimenting to capture that kind of slouchy, casual look.

I opened his eyes a bit, and used the actual eyes from my Elfdoll Red.

Prima is a 60 cm Obitsu BJD modded down with 55 cm legs to about 55 cm. She looks very delicate next to him, but not out of scale, I don't think.

I like how he looks, and Prima seems very happy too!

Awesome to finally see one "in the flesh." I use Bobobie's natural flop for Ryan's relaxed surfer-dude appeal. But... he can't hold a single pose. Cause he's floppy! teehee

I'm surprised that the joint system is so iffy for this guy. I'd have thought Obitsu would do a better job in the development phase. Think they'll make a corrected version?

Prima looks almost superimposed in some of those pictures, but they look really good together! I love both of their sweaters.

I dunno...not to be a dissenting voice, but I like the old face better. This one looks depressed or grim :( Oddly the shape and all remind me of the BBB Apollo.

He looks like a great doll...but just not like Niki to me.

I like the old face better too- but I was tired of hauling that heavy resin around, tired of his snappiness, collapsing, and so forth. I need to work on the face-up some and cheer it up a bit. The face is naturally kind of severe.
Also...does his neck look freakishly long to you in these pictures? It did to me, so I decided to take him out and hack off a cm or so. But when I got out to the Dollhouse, I discovered that I had not pushed his head all the way down, so it was wayyy up on the neck piece. Duh.
I'll post a picture when I get it downloaded.

I don't think he looks too tall for Prima (who looks beautiful, by the way), but then I'm 5' 2" and had several boyfriends in the 6' 5" range. He does look very sad. Maybe he's an existentialist poet as well as a surfer.

His mouth kind of curves down. I'm going to try to add a little upturn to it to see if that lightens his expression. Also- I suck at eyebrows. Maybe if I redo them it'll help. And my 5'1" best friend dated my 6'3" brother, so yeah- it's not too far-fetched!

Try readjusting his eyes, the right eye needs to be pointing a little closer to the nose to balance and I would move both of them up so the pupil is closer to the upper lid. Then tilt his head down more when he looks at Prima. I really like this face!
