Shoes, Shoes Shoes!!!!

My SD girls (and my Tonner guys) got a little treat this morning. The other day I was looking for henna on Amazon because I can't get it here and I just can't use regular hair dye anymore and for the heck of it I looked up mini sneaker key chains because I wanted to see what Amazon had by way of those as I like to use them when I can find them as doll shoes. Usually I find them in bargain stores or out at the flea market but there is usually not a whole lot by way of variety and usually they already have patterns stamped on on them so I can't decorate them myself. I wanted a mess of plain ones in various colors so I could stamp them and paint them for fun.

Most of what I found on Amazon was pretty overpriced. One or maybe 2 pair of shoes for like $10 shipped. Anything fun with glitter or gems or similar stuff was even more, boo hoo! Cheap you say? Well, yeah compared to BJD shoes they would be, but when it comes to buying doll shoes I'm ultra cheap and what I really wanted was a whole bunch of shoes in different colors for maybe $15 that I could do whatever I wanted with. After a bit of looking I found the shoes linked below and I ended up spending just $11 and I got SIX pairs for that shipped!

Just the record buying shoes this way does have it's flaws as a system. For one thing every shoe will be the same side, either a right or left shoe depending upon who makes them. I almost never see them in proper R/L pairs and when I do they charge BJD shoe prices, and I am so not into paying $25 a pair for that! However on a doll's foot you can't really tell that's the case with sneaks unless you're looking directly at the bottom of the sole. When you put a canvas sneaker on a doll's foot it will automatically mold itself to the doll's foot and look rather like it's supposed to. Whether or not you can deal with one sided soles I guess depends on the level of OCD you have but it doesn't bother me, not when I can get cool sneaks at not even $2 a pair! :P

Most of the time these sneaks fit an SD sized foot fairly well, though you may have to wiggle one shoe or another a bit while putting them on to get it to fit properly because of the sole being the wrong way. But I have found smaller ones up on occasion that I ended up using for MSD sized feet. I have some glitter sneaks that I actually found at a dollar store that I can use on my RS girls just fine. They're just a little big but it actually works pretty well. These are definitely SD sized, not MSD. They fit just about perfectly on my green Mirodoll's feet.

Anyway these shoes are very cute, fairly nicely made, and ultra affordable and if you need SD sized shoes this is a heck of a deal. In fact I just ordered another dozen for my SD kids so they could have a few more.

I plan on customizing these using glitter, glue and fabric paint. I have done a few pairs of plain ones before and actually what I did was I used tiny rubber stamps with fabric paint to make various patterns. Or I put glue on them in certain patterns and I just dumped glitter over them till it stuck in those places. I sometimes made more colorful shoe laces out of yarn to match. Kindergarten project type stuff. You could also use fabric paint pens, bead them, or hot glue crystals or whatever on them.

I'm actually into doing this one a lot of things. I do my own shoes and paint on the niece's shoes whenever they get new ones. I've always done shirts and bag but lately I've taken to doing my jeans with bigger stamps, using studs and crystals and stuff. I'm planning on doing the same thing with a pair of MSD and SD doll jeans and a couple of doll t-shirts that I made later this weekend. I haven't had time this week because of a family illness thing but I probably will this weekend...

Ooo... Thanks for this. Another thing on the Amazon wishlist now. While I mostly have 1/6 scale, I've noticed the Star Wars figs I bought have feel closer to 1/4 scale (and I do have a Tonner girl (Antoinette Cameo to be exact), tho no guys). I don't know if these will be a little too big all around for those, but they're worth a look - there's a severe shoe shortage here.

They would be way too big on a Tonner girl. They're probably a bit big on the guys so they wouldn't be very practical on a girl. I have 1/4 (MSD) sized BJD's and they'd be huge on them.

Yes, but I could get a single one and take it apart to scale the pattern down... I just hadn't even thought of such a thing.
