Plan to buy a BJD

I plan to buy my first BJD. It's a Doll Family-H Lei Li. He is 70cm tall from head to foot.

If anyone owns one what are your thoughts? Is he worth it? I really like him since I had a creepy experience. I have a hand drawn face pic and when I saw this doll, it was like looking at the real thing almost. And I drew the picture way before I saw this particular doll.

I'll share a link: http://www.acbjd.com/thunder-p-4364.html?cPath=340_342 He's named Thunder for some odd reason in Alice's Collections website under Doll Family-H

Well, I think this post will be moved to the 1/3 forum, anyway, returning on topic:

Hey, that seems very cool, not creepy! This doll has an interesting anime like face and surely resembles some characters, so you probably have been inspired for your picture (or the person that drawn it... I didn't understand if it was your drawing or not, sorry) by the same characters/style the sculptor of the doll has been.
In my experience, if a doll stuck in your mind, is the right doll. Both my BJD were stuck in my mind for months and when I finally got them I was (and still am) really, really happy! In the other hand, if you haven't do it already, search for owner's picture to be sure about you're buying, sometimes sculpt look very different from company photos in owners photos.
For tecnical questions about Doll Family in particular, probably someone here can add more info...

Err, yeah, this is 1/3 forum material, but I made a newbie mistake when I first joined too, so don't worry about it. No one gets funny about wrong board posts. :) As for the doll, I agree with MitisFeles, he's gorgeous, and he definitely has that anime bishounen look that probably inspired the artist and/or you, as well as the sculptor. :D Dolls in this size range really aren't my thing but for someone who is into that size range...I'd definitely go with him. It sounds like you're quite sweet on him already!! And $390 is actually rather cheap for a 70cm doll in my experience!! I say buy him, buy him a wig and some clothes and you'll have a lovely doll!! <3

Yeah, don't worry - a mod will move it to the right subforum!

I have a Doll Family-H 58cm Ella. She's for sale, but not because of any problem with the doll (I reshelled the character with a grail doll). I'm very pleased with her quality and posing ability. Doll Family has what I would consider well priced dolls for the quality. I personally don't think you'd be disappointed buying from them. I bought Ella from Mint on Card back in early Sept. of 2011 and she arrived before Christmas - pretty quick turnaround considering the holiday rush.

My only warning is that a 70cm doll is very big and very heavy to have as a first BJD. I have one 70cm boy (my DOD DOI Camine) and I have no plans on getting any more that large. But that's just me. I have friends who have several. However, it sounds like this doll is a character of yours and from his distinctive look, I don't think you'll find him in a smaller size! :D

Thanks for the feed back. I have a Mint on Card account. I acutally had a big non BJD that was roughly 70 cm, and getting her to stand was a pain. Too bad I lost her. I had fun making clothes for her. Awesome. I would love to get ownership insight on Doll family dolls.

Good! I was going to warn you about the size. I fell in love with a big Iplehouse boy when first getting in the hobby from a picture on-line. Luckily, I got to see one and hold it in person before I ordered. 70 cm was way too much doll for me. I am glad you have experience with that size to make a decision.

I have had a similar experience, drawing a doll, well drawing a character of mine 800 times and then finding the doll, LOL. It is really good when it happens and it is not a super limited sculpt... otherwise it can be painful and frustrating. I like big dolls. I got a little guy at first, he's a 62cm normally that I modded to 63-4. I love him so much. He's my special guy. There is something about your first doll, yanno? Well you will. Most of my guys are bigger than he is though.

Awsome. NOw that I found him, I can't stop dreaming about the doll. Now I know I'm addicted, lol. But I am glad I found him. I just hate waiting for income tax season. *ish on pins and needles*

I did the same thing, wanted that huge doll first and then freaked out and sold her cos she was too big for me to handle. And then ... several years later I'm up to 8 SD. >.>
