1950's Dolls & Accessories

Postby Trethowan » Wed Mar 28, 2012 5:04 pm

I finally managed to get this uploaded onto my flickr. My mother gave me these dolls that belonged to our neighbor's daughter. She was 11 when she died, I believe it was around the 1950's. Anyway, the neighbor was near death and gave Mom these dolls. Mom had them in storage for the longest time, and it occurred to her that I like dolls so she gave them to me.

I think I'll have to invest in some Remove zit and formula 911 to get them cleaned up.

Cute shoes!

Most of the smaller plastic items are ruined. The leather is rotted on the shoes. The elastics are nearly rotted. The fabric of the dresses is still in good shape.

She stands very well.

Don't try using zit creme on the green ear. It won't work. Twin Pines stuff will though...

A couple of those are what they used to call Dollykins, no? They're beautiful. I'm totally coveting them, smile.

These are so awesome! I'm always hunting around the second hand stores for things like this. Great collection.

Thanks, since they were handed down with such a long delay (1950 to 2012, LOL) I have no idea what they are. So before my time. They're awfully cute.

I'll definitely buy both of the cleaners at some point. Thanks for the tips.

The semi-articulated one in black I believe is a dollykin or dollikin. I forget how you spell it but it looks about right for one. I knew a woman who collected those and it looks just like her dolls. One of them looks vaguely like an Effanbee doll too. You really need to get on an antique and vintage doll list and check these out. They could actually be worth a fair bit from the looks of it. Some of those 50's dolls are really hot collectibles. Even if you don't want to sell them you should know what they are and what their value is. I've got a couple of 50's ballerinas myself but mostly my dolls are later. But any good vintage doll list could tell you what you've got there. It looks like she left you something really special.

Thanks for the tips. It's one of those things that "I'll get around to" (in Angela world that can be six months or more.) I'll probably want to sell them. I'm saving up the funds for an Iplehouse and you know how expensive those bad boys are. Yikes! I'll definitely do some research and see what I can dig up.

Before you do too much check and see if the buyers would rather have them as-is and have restoration work done by someone who's more familiar with them. Unless you've worked with these kind of dolls before.

One of them might be this doll. I have been collecting Jill clothes for My Mini Planetdoll girls.

One of those shoes looks like a Drina ballerina shoe. If you have a girl there with pointed feet she could be a Drina Ballerina or similar.
