A Little Hobbit Serendipity...

Postby magkelly » Wed Jun 12, 2013 10:22 am

Remember my Arwen relative that I sort of made up to use my 2nd Arwen doll as an OOAK? Well, I'm not really sure of who she is character-wise but looks-wise the new Hobbit film pretty much has her in Tauriel. There is no romantic thing as per Jackson with her and Legolas but they spend a lot of the time they're in the film running around together and she's pretty much how I envisioned my girl so I'm probably going to end up shipping her and Legolas like mad even though that's totally bogus...sigh...lol...The guy playing his father looks great in the elf ears too. Almost as hot as the son, dayum....

Love to see a dolly version of her!

I must confess, I haven't seen the Hobbit pt.1 yet- the split into _3_ movies is a little odd. I just fear that there's going to be a lot of padding.

Eeeheehee!!!! *flails around happily* I am so glad they didn't try to squeeze the whole book into one movie. And yeah his dad is smokin'. The fact that Sylvester McCoy (or as I like to call him: The Doctor) is also in it made me scream like a tweenager at a Justin Beiber concert.

There will be but a lot of that is actually taken from Tolkien's unpublished Hobbit revisions and his other books that mention stuff from the Hobbit era so while some of it will be totally made up it should be good. I trust Jackson. There was a lot in LOTR that wasn't in those books, like Arwen's much more important role, and the stuff with Eowyn and Faramir in the houses of healing, and I really liked most of it. He definitely brought Galadriel and the other elves back into it in places she originally wasn't and it still looks good to me so far from the clips and trailer. There's definitely more dialogue for Smaug too it looks like and that can't be a bad thing given it's Cumberbatch. I actually haven't seen all of the first film as yet. But I'm looking forward to the second and third parts. Freeman looks like he's doing a perfect job as young Bilbo...

Actually, the part about Faramir and Eowyn is in the books. :?
It's just less emphasized, perhaps?
And Benedict Cumberbatch is also playing the Necromancer, which I think is the same thing as Sauron. The rest of the extra material, as far as I can tell, is extrapolated from the Silmarillion; though, the "white orc" I think is purely an invention of the filmmakers.

A lot less prominent. They took a few thrown off lines and pretty much made it into a big romance, lol. But I liked it because I like both of them and it was nice to actually see a bit more of that rather than getting hardly any of that as if it was only worth a brief mention. People complained but the one thing I really did like about Jackson's LOTR was the plumped up roles for the few women in the thing. IMHO Tolkien was a bit less than inspiring when it came to writing about any female character except for maybe Galadriel. Always really loved Arwen and I really liked what he did with her. She became so much more than just the royal elf woman Strider loved. Eowyn too she was nicely fleshed out I think...

Yeah, there aren't very many women in Tolkien's work, and, certainly the trilogy doesn't devote that much time to the women it does have. It's too the point that Tolkein has been accused of being a misogynist. I personally don't think that's the case though; the women he did write really shine. I mean, he wrote a story about a damsel who raids an evil sorcerer's fortress(with the help of just one dog) to rescue the man she loves, and she succeeds! That's pretty awesome, I'd say.
