April from TMNT 2012

Here is our April O'Neil custom from the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 cg cartoon. When we first started collecting the 1:6 Turtles that Playmates has made for the series (starting with Michelangelo), we really wanted an April to go with them. We've now got them all, and here's our April we put together!

Her head came from a Brave Meridia doll from Mattel, that Hubby wiped and re-painted. We styled her bangs and made her headband from a cut-off piece of a vitamin bottle cap. I hand sewn her shirt, shorts, bodysuit, and socks, and Hubby made her wrist guards and boots, and painted the stripes, detailing, and number 5 on her shirt, as well as the stripes on her socks.


She's on an Obitsu 27 pale body that we freckled up. She's freckled on her shoulders, chest, lower sides, and inner thighs. I made her a criss-cross bra, and the panties are Takara Jenny.

Her little key-chain charm dangly thing isn't entirely accurate. I'm really proud of how the shorts turned out. Both the hand and back pockets are functional.

I've never seen this new series, but I really like the older one(1987 one), so I was surprised that April looks so different in the new series! (I admit, I was still expecting 2012 April to wear a yellow jumpsuit )

I LOVE the new series. It's probably my favorite out of all of them so far. Although, yeah, April is a LOT younger than she was in all the other series, and she's lost her jumpsuit and her career(s). You did a good job on her. Her outfit is amazing. Too bad Playmate couldn't get the Turtles better in-scale, though. They're actually taller than April in this series, and Splinter is huge!

I haven't seen the new show (it's a matter of a lack of TV reception where I live), but even without that... that looks really cool. The freckling job and all of the clothes are amazing.

Funnily enough, I had some turtle surprise of my own when I found my old (still sealed on card) teeny Turtles (and April, Shredder, Splinter, and a Foot Soldier). They're all of a couple inches tall each (if that), and I now have em hanging from pushpins on my wall for display.

And this made me think they'd just about be 1/6 scale to my 1/6 scale figs... >.>

My April(More 03 redhead than the 89 I grew up with) thanks you for making a cuter teen April than her action figure crack her up to be Nice job

I love TMNT but haven't watch the 2012 one yet

Although, yeah, April is a LOT younger than she was in all the other series, and she's lost her jumpsuit and her career(s).

It makes me wonder how they recast Casey for this. To me, April was the adult of the cast. (If they make Shredder into a teen *Shudder*)

lol No, Shredder is definitely an adult in this one. But Karai is April's age. She's actually kinda cool and she's one of those anti-hero types. She's not exactly the good guy but she does seem to have some moral issues with what's going on. At least, she's seeing beyond her father's vendetta to the bigger picture (the Krang attempting to take over the world, which Shredder seems to have no interest in).

I also like that they returned Splinter to being a former human, like he was in the first series, who had a wife and daughter. It never made sense to me why they made him mutate from an actual rat instead of a man in the movies and later series. How the hell did he learn to read and write and practice ninjitsu? Who taught him? Rats are smart, but they aren't THAT smart. That was just TOO unrealistic, even for a series starring giant walking talking ninja turtles. lol

As for Casey, he hasn't shown up yet, but really I could take him or leave him. He wasn't my favorite character. But if he shows up as April's love interest, he'll probably be a teen, too.

Lol. April as an adult was how i remember her from my preteen days when TMNT kicked out the last of my Barbies to end the Tri-Barbie-Plushie war. All I have left are a pair of damaged cartoon yellow jumpsuit April and Casey. Although I bought the 2007 movie version. They seem pretty content to stay in the 1/6 replacement doll shells

Granted it would be tough to introduce another good teen girl to counter Karai and Karai is not likely to be age up for April since she is to counter Leo. Shredder as a krang type brain already threw me off. I can't imagine mecha shredder learning ninjitsu

I would probably attempt to track this show down when Casey joins season 2.
Oh yeah does 1/3 hockey mask exist? Would love to have my iplehouse cosplay him for lols and ode

Thanks, britbrat! I've never actually seen much of the classic '87 show, but I think it would be fun to make a yellow jumpsuit and news camera for ours!

Thanks Stormlight! Both Hubby and me are in love with this new series, too (If they would EVER air the next episode )! I'm really glad Playmates actually made each of the turtles unique, though Donnie could have stood to be about an inch taller. Mikey is really small compared to Leo and Donnie, while Raph is really broad across. What's giving the illusion of lack of scale is that our April is actually too tall! She would probably scale better on a 23cm or a 25cm, but I'm happy with her on the 27cm.
I need to start looking for some 1"-2" Star Trek little figs so Leo can have a Captain Ryan action figure! And I need to make a small Spike to sit on Raph's shoulders! I love that they gave him an un-mutated pet turtle!

Thanks, WhiteDove! If you get a chance to check it out on the internet, it's pretty good. The Turtles act a lot more like actual teenagers this go around, but at the same time it has more focus on action and some of the darker, grittier vibe of the original comic. Though there are some great throwbacks to the 87 toon every now and then.
What era are your tiny turtles? 1987 cartoon or 2003? I now want 1/6th turtles for my other 1/6thers!

Casey hasn't shown up yet, but he was hinted at in Raph's prequel comic on the Nick website. He supposed to be a couple of years older than April, about a senior in high school or so.

I'm really excited for Casey to appear, but I really hope they handle him well. Before this new series, I was only really a fan of the 1990 movie, and the 2007 CGI movie to some extent. Elias Koteas as Casey is my favorite version of the character, so I have plans in place to bash a more realistic Casey based on Koteas' portrayal. We'll probably add a more realistic April to go with him, as well as a Karai and Casey (when introduced) based on the 2012 series.

I was only really a fan of the 1990 movie, and the 2007 CGI movie to some extent. Elias Koteas as Casey is my favorite version of the character, so I have plans in place to bash a more realistic Casey based on Koteas' portrayal.

Elias Koteas is cute. Since it was tough for me to get the comics back then, Elias was the face of Casey for me. Would love to see your take on him.
