Barbie and friends face molds

Postby DollyKim » Mon Jul 01, 2013 6:02 am

I can't be the only one with Mattel face mold questions.

Is there a sure fire way to tell if you have a Tango or Goddess Barbie?

And is there a difference between the Blaine/Fashionista 100 Poses Ken and the Tango face Ken? I have a lot of blond guys with the same face but they've been sold under different names.

Thanks, I've been to the first one and it helped a ton, I'm still puzzled with the subtle differences between a couple of them. It still took a few hours of image searching and finding the exact dolls I have to tell a Derby from a Lea and that one is a Mackie and not something else.

And another thank-you for the links. I'm still slowly going through the Backroom Barbie Pile and while they're all damaged and playworn and not old enough to be 'vintage' and thus slated to have their heads yanked off for OOAK projects, I would like to be able to keep nice records of which head was used for which project. This should help a lot. :)

I think I got this right, please correct me if I didn't. I can pretty much remember who they were sold as. This applies to heads only as I do a lot of body swapping.

The Midge with the earrings is either MagicEarring Midge or Sunsational Midge. (sp?) The one in the pink and gold sari with the dot on her forehead is actually Barbie in India or something like that. She's one of the DOTW Indian Barbies. The one with the pink hair was a Swapping Styles Barbie head and I believe your Blaine is the Beach Fun Blaine. The one under him is the Barbie Basics Ken. I have two of those. He's awesome. The Raquel/Summer was from like 3 sets of Fashionista Barbies ago, when they were still calling them by silly names like Sassy. The Blond Mackie she might be a Nascar doll or a Corvette doll, not sure. The one below her looks like the Elvis Barbie but I'm not 100% positive on that one.

The Blonde Mackie is Sinatra Barbie otherwise you're spot on it's Earring Midge, I know what they were all sold as, I just want to make sure I have the names of the face molds right.

The date on the Angel/Goddess' nape is 1998. The Tango supposedly has 2001, instead.

Desiree (is spelt this way),
Teresa (is spelt this way) and is now distinguished by her date stamp as in 1990 Teresa,
Miko is officially known as the Oriental sculpt,
The sculpt you call Mbili looks more like the (Shani series') Nichelle sculpt, stamped 1990,
Raquelle & Summer are two different sculpts. Raquelle is stamped 2010. Summer, 2003. I would go with the Carnaval sculpt, also dated 2003.
