Here's a linkto her blog. I know she's done a few resin runs of her dolls in the past. Also, the freaking shoes she makes for them are just to die for! :o

Porcelain is actually very strong. Its only a sudden swiftshock which causes the cells to vibrate out of rythym and break apart that causes cracks and breakage. So you wouldn't want to drop it, and you wouldn't want to hit it with anything or let heavy objects fall against the doll, BUT I have seen resin dolls dropped and crack or break as well.

lb for lb (or kilo for kilo I guess) Porcelain is much stronger than resin.

Other nice things about porcelain is that it will never ever color shift. (Porcelain slip comes in so many lovely skin tones and the color you buy is the color you keep.)

Decoration, as stated here in a previous post, can be fired on and made completely permenant

Decoration can be applied with acrylics and sealers just like resin if you want to have the option to change it, and is removeable.

Porcelain is not affected by UV- no fading, but even more importantly it does not oxidize or become brittle with age. Most resins that do not have UV stabilizers added to them will amber and become brittle over the next 20 years. Porcelain is thought of as brittle bceause, if you whack a wrist it cracks off, But the truth is that if you apply slow steady pressure to the same wrist in resin it will not be as strong as the porcelain wrist.

I like Resin for its own qualities of course- its fun to play with and very durable for that purpose if protected from direct sunlight or bright flourescent lighting over time, but for durabilty, and lasting artforms like these amazing dolls, porcelain is a very wise choice of material.

It really is not true that porcelain is not as strong as resin, Both materials are fragile or strong in their own ways. It depends on how they are handled and cared for.

But in the hands of an adult, with adult play situations, they tend to stand up to use equally well.

There are a lot of wonderful Russian porcelain bjd artists! The one you showed is an Enchanted Doll by Marina Bychkova. Last I heard, she lives in the Vancouver area. I really like her work too :) But my favorite Russian porcelain bjd artist is JRDolls, she is an artist in Novosibirsk. I have several of her dolls, and they are amazing. This is a pic of all my girls together (sorry, I'm a bad photographer, but you get the idea :P )
