Looks great!! Did you handsew the stockings..? I've made stockings before but the seams are bursting because of the tension and I'm not sure how to make them stronger :(

All of these were sewn on a machine. I use a straight stitch first on the stockings, stretching them a very little, and then follow up with a very narrow zig-zag stitch. Then I trim the seam close to the stitching. If you are hand sewing stockings, I suggest first sewing a tiny running stitch followed by rolling and overcasting the seam allowance. Trim the seam allowance after the running stitch, then do the overcast. That should keep it from bursting. You want about 1/8 inch seam allowance.

Thanks for the tips ^^. I hope I can translate this to Dutch sewing language heehee ^^

Evelien: I was going to be clever/stupid and make up something like "straijt stidtch, zijg-zaag stidtch, trijm the seeme, runingstidtch, overcaasting", but it looks like I know less about the Dutch language than I thought I did... and when I feed the words through an actual translator, the output looks so much cooler to me that I don't want to make that poor parody anymore. For the record, the translator offered "rechte steek, zigzagsteek, trim de naad, rijgsteek, overhandse"... and I have no idea whether any of those are correct ("trim" being preserved as-is is a bit suspicious), but they look pretty nifty. ;)

To keep this post somewhat on topic: Zirconmermaid, does the material you used here have elasticity/stretchiness, or did you have to sew the stockings to fit the contours of the leg?

Hahahaha I prefer your awesome translation! And 'trim' is actually a verb in Dutch too, but means something else, so isn't really applicable here. 'Overhandse' doesn't make sense to me but then again not many sewing expressions make sense to me. I should visit a sewing website. A DUTCH sewing website ;)

I am always fascinated by language. I used to know 4 different ones. In answer to the question on stretch - it's very stretchy! Mostly around the leg and a little up and down. It's usually in the swimsuit fabrics area.

Evelien: Yes, a Dutch sewing site will certainly give you better results than an automated online translating service. I made my fake ones by taking what I thought I knew about Dutch that made it stand apart from English, like the "ij" and "dt" combinations. Best wishes for finding the REAL info!

Zirconmermaid: Thanks for the details! I live in a smallish town which has no dedicated craft/fabric stores and only two stores that carry any fabric, so it's a little hard to find the more unusual fabrics... but I'm not sure they don't have them hidden away somewhere I haven't looked, and there's always online, too.
