A dollfie less perfect?

When I ordered Rolant from Mirodoll, I knew to expect a few flaws, but I couldn't be happier with him! I actually like the little dent on his chest where a bubble in the resin was sanded away.I hadn't thought about making it part of his story before, though; now you've got me considering it.

With the exception of one of my dolls, my collection is entirely comprised of flawed, damaged dolls. I don't have any personalities or back stories for any of them, I just feel more comfortable modifying a doll that is already damaged.

Would I buy a doll *brand new* if it had a bad design flaw? If I knew about that flaw, no. I have a beautiful custom body by NobilityDoll - it's hip sockets are too shallow for the leg so the leg constantly dislocates. We didn't know about this when they shipped the dolls out. I can't display it because even when seated the leg pops out. It is very disappointing.

However if you are actually asking would I buy a doll from a company that was created to represent the differently abled - it's possible. Things that are different are also beautiful.

Is it possible to fix the hip sockets by making them deeper? Is there enough resin to do so?

A design or structure flaw would turn me off new or used. Something like a casting bubble I'd consider on a doll to doll basis. I've stained and scratched enough myself. Something like a face-up or body blushing I can fix so that isn't a big problem.

My Medicom RAH disarms himself and the company fixed him but he still does it because of a design flaw. I'm keeping him mostly because he's found his place as the Ninth Doctor and he's a big reason I started my website. I have a couple of old doll friends who have had their heads loved off and they aren't going anywhere.

Imagine if the butt cheeks on your doll were cut off - those butt cheeks acted as a wall for the sockets. Well...in this particular doll there are no butt cheek walls, so the legs pop right out. It takes exquisitely careful balancing to make sure she doesn't just dislocate all over the place.



Thick wire will probably help, one owner did some extensive and extraordinary drilling to get the socket more secure. If I knew about this kind of problem beforehand though, I would not have purchased a doll with this issue.
