Question

Hello everyone!

I have come across a diverse group of people on DS. Some are serious collectors, going after groups and keeping all their dolls in their boxes, sealed and on display. Others are into ripping heads off and swapping bodies. Make-overs and collecting specific groups seem to be popular. Well, I'm none of the above. I never set out to collect dolls. I started by knitting Barbie dolls clothes cos I enjoy that. Slowly my number of dolls grew as friends and children of friends blessed me with dolls. Suddenly I found myself looking forward to my next doll, and the next one, etc. Now I have a good few. Many of them gifts and others I've bought myself. Most are Barbies or other fashion dolls plus 2 Moxie Teenz and 1 Hearts for Hearts girl (I would LOVE more of these). None of my girls, their husbands (two are married), their children (I have 4 grandchildren) - are in boxes or in their original clothes. I'm constantly making them new clothes and I change their outfits. I brush their hair often and wash it when needed. In other words... I play with them So what am I? A doll collector? A lover of dolls? Or a bit of both?

You are an enjoyer of dolls - like all of us here. I think most of us have the hands-on approach to our resin and vinyl darlings. I just got a fullset Elloywnye Wilde Alone on Sunday and while she's so beautiful that I will just be displaying her for a while, I know at some point the "newness" will wear off and I'll start messing with her.

I think my husband would be convinced I've lost it if I carry a doll around with me. But it's great to know there are other adult children out there

Lol. I do that too since 1/6ers are so convenient to tote. Since I work in the touristy-arty side of town, there are some festivals and art installations that pops up. Its nice to have a doll around to shoot. If anything prior to owning dolls, I don't have much interest in visiting said events or the lovely parks and nature reserves

For some of us, dolls are a combination of various hobbies - sewing/painting/photography/story writing. They make me want to learn to sew/make things for them.

LOL Cordie has her own seat in the car and my husband asks if she is in my purse. Of course, she is only 15cm tall-a little less than 6 inches-including her ears. She has her own sitting room in my classroom.
Myri is the stealth doll-she is only 5.5 cm tall- and travels when the doll needs to be a secret.

This is true for me as well. My dolls encourage me to experiment in all sorts of arts that I wouldn't have thought of without them.

Yes, inevitably there are other hobbies that emerge. For me, dolls emerged from my knitting for them. Photography was always a passion and now I use it with my dolls as well. Sewing (though I don't do too much of it) emerged as a alternative to knitting for my dolls.
