They're too sexy for their clothing - but they have to wear them anyway! Did you buy it? Did you make it? Who cares - let'm strut their stuff here!

My winning FB contest entry

Postby kenaiqueen » Wed Sep 11, 2013 10:02 am

I entered a contest on one of my Facebook groups and found out late last night that I won the People's Choice! The group is a Tonner swap & sell group, but they have discussions and the occasional contest. This contest was called the 'Chopped Runway.' There was a sign up period and I believe 7 signed up but only 5 ultimately participated. We paid a $10 fee to help defray costs and we were sent a 'basket' of materials. We had to make a wearable fashion for any Tonner doll we owned and we had to use at least a little of each of the materials supplied. The theme was Cirque Du Soleil. It was emphasized that the entry be fashion, not costume.

Here is the 'basket.' It included a lime green linen with embroidered pink dots, a black and white swirled patterned chiffon and a bit of black stretchy mesh. There was also a beaded trim and a black button.

Because of the color of the green material, I decided to use my Ms. Beetlejuice doll as my model. (My other choices would have been my American Model or one of my two Lord of the Rings character dolls by Tonner.)

These are some of my sketches:

I finally settled on one of these:

And here is the finished work.

I think I really lucked out on the green material since it was so close to the color of my Ms. Beetlejuice doll (which I actually received as a prize in a Tonner FB contest). Her dramatic makeup didn't hurt either.

Back and side views:

We submitted photos by email and then front/side views were posted in an album to the group for a popular vote while the judges were deliberating over a winner. I had 14 likes/votes and the second place finisher had 5, so I'm pretty tickled it was such a decisive vote.

We were also allowed to send two photos posed with props to help show off the Cirque theme. This is my favorite of the two:

No word yet on the judged portion of the contest, but I think I have a chance to sweep this. It was fun!

Thanks for all the lovely compliments! I don't know when I've enjoyed a contest of any kind more than this one. They finally posted the official judges results and I've come in second in their part of the contest, so not a bad showing all around.
