Darker-skinned 1/3 and 1/4 BJD heads, to go with Miro?

Darker-skinned 1/3 and 1/4 BJD heads, to go with Miro?

Postby Marionette » Mon Sep 16, 2013 2:59 pm

I love Miro bodies, and I love that they offer burnt sugar and dark chocolate skintones. However, their selection of heads is very limited. I don't want to wind up using heads that don't match my character concepts and/or reusing the heads time and time again if I want more of these dolls. :(

Thus, I was wondering about companies that do rather dark-skinned BJDs. I don't mean mildly tan but caramel or darker. Heads offered separately is a major plus. Iplehouse's, while great, are all just limited dolls, and Dollmore's isn't offered separately and is way out of my budget. I know you can get a dark resin from Bobobie/Resin Soul too, but they don't seem to offer heads separately very much, and I really prefer Miro's bodies.

I ran into that same problem. I love the Miro bodies but not the heads. With WS and NS I was fine going with BBB/RS heads but from what I hear the new RS tan won't match the Miro. The Miro tan seems to match the OLD BBB/RS perfectly, but alas, that's no longer available in new dolls. I've never seen another company do the burnt sugar color so I've no idea how one would match that shade. I was going to buy a darker Miro body but what head would I buy? How would I ever match it? I'm eventually going to attempt a dye job on a Miro body and RS head to see if it takes. Probably next summer.

Good luck finding matching heads! Keep us posted.

They're not the most detailed or unique sculpts, but I like some of them well enough. The bigger problem for me is just that there's not much selection! Having ordered Wind and 05, there's only one girl head left that I like, and of their three boy heads, I only like one. Two dolls with the same head sculpt can look dramatically different, but I'm not confident enough in my faceup skills for that. I like a lot of Doll-Love heads, so I'll be drowning in NS/WS, but I have a lot more character concepts than just NS/WS! Curse dark resin for being so tricky. :(

I was wondering if maybe Luts tan would match Miro burnt sugar? Their darkest tan, not brown or light tan. It looks to me like it could. However... Luts doesn't seem to sell heads separately anymore. If I have to buy the whole doll I'll keep a Luts body over Miro body any day. xD

Mirodoll will do resin color matching for free-ish. Either from a sample you send them or from a photograph, though folks have had more luck with matches from samples than matches from photos.
I'm planning on eventually getting an RS head in dark tan and sending Miro the head cap to do a resin match... once I have a job again and can afford to do so. :B (though those plans may change if anyone ends up getting resin samples that show Miro dark tan and RS dark tan match well enough to begin with.)

I've purchased most of Miro's 1/3 heads and they actually come out a lot nicer once they have a faceup.

I posted photos on this forum somewhere of the finished face-upped heads. I can look for them if you'd like to see.

Pandor- I know Miro does matching. Problem is, I want it the other way around... I like the shades Miro offers. xD RS's dark tan is pretty too, but I like Miro's skintones a lot.

SetsunaKou- Yeah, I think most of them will be workable! I really like 06, and I can work with Wind.

However, I'm not too fond of the style of Thunder or Lightning, and pics I've seen of 06 make me think it's not going to work for any of my concepts right now. That leaves me with "New Girl Head" (which I definitely like), Boy Head 02 (again, like it), and Wallace (whose eyes I'm really unsure about). I want... a lot more than three more dolls. xD Because I'm unskilled at faceup, I don't trust myself to be able to set two of the same sculpt apart enough to order them on multiple dolls.

If you have pics, though, I'd love to see them! I might have already found them though... I really struggled to find pics before I settled on 06 for my dark chocolate girl. It was definitely the right choice.

Here are the heads I've done faceups on from Miro:

1/3 Wind Girl: (I modified her a bit by making her eyes smaller, her nose a bit more realistic and her cheeks thinned/more definition in chin.)

1/3 Annie Girl (05 sculpt):

1/3 Cherry Girl (06 sculpt): (Modified to have smaller eyes, much larger nose and become a boy with a goatee)

1/3 Rain Boy (02 sculpt):

1/3 Boy (08 sculpt): (not on their site anymore---discontinued?) (Modified to have smaller eyes, rounder nose, higher cheekbones)

1/3 Boy (William sculpt): (Without faceup)
