riddick (updated 6/10: Weapons!)

since i got the head in for this project i'm slowly working on, figured i'd post pic!
ordered a midos head on the secondhand market, which arrived yesterday. while i'm aware there are sculpts that look more like the character, they are wayyy out of my pricerange. but this head looked fairly masculine, and really the only thing off about it's proportions is the nose and the skin is a bit too light. both liveable conditions.

so, for now he's a floating head. i ordered some mirrored, metallic eyes from ersa flora, should be here in a month or so, and eventually i'm going to order a mirodoll tan body, since this head looks about the same colour as a doll i have in that tone. as much as i'd love a 68cm, i think the 60cm will look more proportional.



figure i might stipple in some stubble on the hairline, but we'll see. i kinda like him how he is. the goggles (these are a trial run) will cover the seam nicely on the headcap when up.

anyway, that's it for now. this will be a slow-to-bump thread lol.

sidenote: i'm using pitch black as my source material for now.

Actually that sculpt isn't too bad of a look-alike. If you're willing to modify it to have some cheekbones (a mod I'm working on myself at the moment), I think it could look even closer. Otherwise, aside from the nose, I think it looks like it could be a young teen-ish aged version. I like the strong eyebrows and the goggles. Did you make them?

he actually came with the face up, which was a big reason why i grabbed it. once i get a body for him i plan to shade out the cheeks and jawline to square it a bit, but i want to wait so i don't mess up the colouring.
i don't think i'm willing to frig with the nose, incase the resin has changed on the surface with age.

but yes, i did make the goggles. it's a trial run with painted leather. i'm going to try to find rubber or plastic for the good version, and hopefully keep some transparency to the lenses

Maybe cellophane or a clear plastic report cover.

This is awesome. I thought that was a pretty cool character, it will be interesting to see a doll version of him.

There will be the Christmas colored plastic wrap in the stores soon. If you pull it tight on an embroidery hoop, maybe layer some gloss on it so it is thicker?

Or you could probably get away with cutting out circles from a Sprite bottle.

Plastic film from a doll box or other clear plastic, with green glass paint over it? You could probably thin it out enough to prevent brush strokes from showing.

i'm thinking i'm going to hit up a craft store, see if i can find some pieces in the jewlery section that are clear plastic in a metal frame. i have a translucent black nailpolish i can paint lenses with if need be.

also, just got a note that his eyes are being shipped. woooooo.

i was going to save up for a mirodoll body, but with the sale, hubby says i should just grab it now.
