Fairyland Sebastian (Kuroshitsuji)...Anyone really SEE him?

Postby MeltedCaramel » Sat Nov 16, 2013 10:39 pm

He's a 70cm, I'm in the right thread guys, right? Anyway, I was just curious, this seems like another one of those things (for those that saw my Durarara!! figure rant) that was a BIG DEAL when it was announced, but then I see no re-sells, not even any evidence that someone decided to buy one. He's the one doll I would buy out of the 1/6 scale range. (I'm also particular to IOS Sebastian but since they don't offer the "full sets" anymore not quite as appealing.) I'm just curious if anyone owns, or has even seen evidence that someone ELSE owns this guy. I was picturing tons of pre-orders and ridiculous markups on the secondhand market, not...

nothing.

Anyone got the scoop on this there-and-gone doll? (Does anyone even still say "got the scoop" anymore or have I dated myself? XD)

As always, pics here:

Actually, this should probably be posted in the 1/3 scale forum. 1/4 scale is MSD size. ;)

They say Fairy Land, so do they mean Fairyland that releases CP's sculpts? Because I've never seen this guy before. If he's 70cm then he's probably on Fairyland's original F70 body, which is discontinued now. I don't think CP sculpted his head, though. The info listed Polygonia as the manufacturer. And Fairyland doesn't usually release anime-inspired dolls. According to the page, this guy seems to be a Japan online store exclusive. So chances are not a lot of people outside of Japan ordered him. I've never seen him on DOA or anything like that.

Just moved this to the right scale area :) Not that we are anal about where one posts, but you may get more responses here. If, as Stormlight says, the real manufacturer is someone in Japan then you may need to look into Yahoo Japan Auctions (accessible through proxy sellers) to find one as they probably are very rare outside of Japan.

Thank you for moving it to the right area Greyhaunt, I'm completely stupid if it doesn't include the handle "1/6" or "1/8". Heck, I practically traffic in figmas and assorted action figures and people usually give measurements along the lines of "Well he's not quite six inches tall...". It seems most manufacturers go "Eh, it's within a certain set of parameters, but we'll call it this anyway." Like how "1/6" really means "More types and bodies than you can ever hope to memorize."

Hmnnn, I guess I just figured since this guy is so popular via stateside too that at least one member would have used a Japanese proxy. I've got a cheap automatic one I use all the time (great for when you decide you just MUST have that One Piece auction figure at 3AM), so it really surprises me that no one has used their myriad of contacts (or...a simple proxy or buddy) to buy this and then ship it international to them.

Ugh, my friend is going to love me for having to ask her "How do you write Fairyland Sebastian in Japanese when you mean the figure?"

If anyone spots this unicorn, even just as a "hey look proof he exists beyond some promotional photos!" do tell! :D

As for Stormlight:
They say Fairy Land, so do they mean Fairyland that releases CP's sculpts? Because I've never seen this guy before. If he's 70cm then he's probably on Fairyland's original F70 body, which is discontinued now. I don't think CP sculpted his head, though. The info listed Polygonia as the manufacturer. <---I'm just as confused as you are on this one. I read somewhere that Polygonia (indeed that and Fairyland Japan were the only places online you could have placed an order) and Fairyland "collaborated" on him. To what extent, no one knows. As for being a Japan store exclusive...I'm not trying to be ignorant AT ALL, please don't take it that way, but I thought most BJD owners were used to the whole "proxy/this is Japanese only/no international shipping" type deals, especially before they became popular. o_O I guess I just can't imagine only some Japanese fans buying this doll. :?:

Well, in the case of Volks, that might be true. In order to buy a Volks doll, like one of their full-set Dollfie Dreams, you'd have to order through something like a middleman to get one, or buy from Yahoo Japan auctions. You CAN buy from them internationally, they just don't make it very easy for you.

But Fairyland is in South Korea, and they've always sold internationally from the time they opened. Before Fairyland opened, CP was affiliated with Luts, who also sells internationally. However, Fairyland has three separate websites. The Korean site, the international English site, and then they opened the Japanese site. It's possible Sebastian was released when their Japanese site opened or they had some other special Japan-only event. Unless you went to the site and navigated through it to find him (which, unless you're fluent in Japanese, probably wouldn't be so easy), you probably wouldn't even know he existed. He did not show up or was announced on the English site at all.

As for collaboration, Fairyland probably provided the body, and possibly the clothes, and the head was provided by the other place? They might've had some say in how the head was sculpted, since they have a patented locking system to hold the head on the neck and all.

I suppose, if you REALLY want to know about this doll, you could ask Fairyland directly on their English Q&A section exactly when he was released and for what purpose and such. And as Greyhaunt says, try Yahoo Japan auctions and see if he shows up there? Type in his information and such. Perhaps you'll get a hit?

I just checked Yahoo Japan auctions and there's nothing there of the doll at all.

But I found these sites:

http://www.polygonia.com/s_a/index.html
http://www.polygonia.com/

http://www.pixiv.net/news/topic_article.php?id=76142

A blog about him:
http://ameblo.jp/haru0346/entry-10863514185.html

Looks like he was made/to be made in 2011 for dollfairyland.co.jp but their site is offline now, so maybe they went out of business?

Thanks for all the links and net sleuthing guys, it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. <3 You know, I noticed something, while Fairyland's English site seems active, it seems rather sparse, and Polygonia's last update was early 2012 with a total of around 4 items to their name according to YJP when I searched that particular company. I'm not wondering if this was a project that never got off the ground. A bunch of people on myfigurecollection grumble about him not "looking like Sebastian" (then again, they say that about Azone's version, Medicom Edward Elric...they all grumble about something! XD) but I can't imagine a doll this lovely and not ONE person, Japanese, English, Korean, whatever nationality, snatching him up! Add on to that the fact that the only photos are promotional ones, and I'm starting to wonder if he ever actually got his debut as promised.

I did a bit of sleuthing and found this:

http://web.archive.org/web/201108281001 ... 00001.html <---It looks like Fairyland had a sale (or at least pre-order, Google Translate mentions something about a 2 month wait period) page for him...oh where, oh where could he be secondhand? I'm going to take Stormlight's kind advice and ask Fairyland's US team if he was ever actually manufactured. I do know the reason that Fairyland didn't make him available on the US website was due to copyright issues (different English companies held rights to different bits of the franchise).

Thank you all for being so sweet. <3

The reason Fairyland looks sparse right now is because they've been so backlogged with orders, they've temporarily discontinued several of their lines until they can catch up. This includes their F60, F65, and puki puki lines. Trust me, they're not in want of business. I think their problem is they had too many events back to back to back (tanned events, Juri and Nanuri heads, ect), so they sorta dug themselves into a hole. Their average wait time is 4 months now.

And yeah, I don't see the Japanese site. I could have sworn they'd opened one, but perhaps I'm thinking of another company. I can't imagine it would've gone out of business, as popular as Fairyland's dolls are. Unless they closed it temporarily, as well, in order to play catch up?

Hmmm... It is a mystery!
