I place all the blame on my husband. I played with Barbies when I was younger, but I never knew anything beyond them. I wasn't the type to sit down with my Barbie's and make them walk around and talk and stuff. I spent hours setting up each of my play-sets, and then picking out a Barbie to dress up to go with that play-set. Then I'd take it all apart and put it up until next time. Hubby introduced me to anime 1/6thers through his RAH Ed Elric and Azone Ichigo Kurosaki shortly after we met (We were both into anime big time in high school). I fell in love. I love taking time to just set up a scene with all sorts of little props and accessories. I love posing and positioning everyone just right. I don't always get the pictures taken, though (I forget to put the camera batteries on charge).
We primarily collect and make 1/6th anime/video game dolls. Off the top of my head, we have: InuYasha and Kagome, Ichigo, Ed, Karren from Code Geass, Tenchi, Ryoko and Ayeka from Tenchi Muyo!, Rin Tohsaka from Fate Stay Night, Sailor Mercury, Rikku, Auron and Tidus from FFX, 2012 April O'Neil and all four TMNT, the Prince of Persia, Spike from Buffy, Venom from Marvel, Knuckles and Shadow from Sonic, AXL from MegaMan X, an old-school Mulan Barbie, Haruko and Mamimi from FLCL, and some Pokemon (Not to mention the 20+ Monster High dolls that take over periodically). There's also a die-cast 12" tall Optimus Prime that likes to police when everyone gets off the shelves. He's a full 12", but he's definitely not 1/6th scale.
And those are just the ones that are here and complete. I don't think I've ever sat down and listed them all. It's thanks to this forum and all the wonderful people here that I got into BJDs (I only have 1, a 1/4th RS Mei. I love her so much, but I probably won't get many more this big. Maybe 1 or 2 RS friends, 'cause I love their sculpts and colors). We come from a more action doll background (Highly articulated figures with usually sculpted hair and removable cloth clothing).
I can't say that I have an all-time favorite, since we rotate out our current fandom every little while so they don't get stale. Right now, though, it's probably April, since we've put so much work into her, and of course her Turtle brothers. Just got a set of the 2003 Turtles, too. But they'll need some work before their photo ready. I eventually want to get a set of '87 Turtles too.
Also, Edward Elric is a top favorite. There have been times where I've been "meh" about him. There have been times where I've hated him. But to this day I still love him and all his attitude. He started out an RAH, but Medicom's that old just aren't lasting like other companies (I blame the plastic and probably some of their old manufacturing processes). He's now been put onto an Obitsu body (boy he sure is loving his extra height), and we're going to eventually make his left leg into auto-mail (just haven't gotten around to it yet).
I have to say, not much surprises me of what can be found in 1/6th. I've seen lots of strange anime dolls (FLCL even got dolls, and there's not much zanier than that series), and there are lots of little one-offs. Probably two of my favorite "strange" 1/6thers are Asmus Toy's The Mask, and someone (Dark Horse, maybe?) made a Bruce Campbell figure. I want them both.
