cheap vs expensive

Postby Rage_girl » Wed Nov 20, 2013 9:10 pm

in the years i have been in this hobby i have meet many different people at doll meets most have been really cool people. how ever at every meet i have ever hosted or gone to these is always one topic talked about. so i was wonder what everyone here thought. are cheaper dolls such as resinsoul somehow less of a ball-joint doll then a more expensive doll from a company like Iplehouse? i am just wondering peoples opinions on this because like i said this always somehow comes up when i am at meets.

I don't think less expensive dolls are any "less" of anything just because they cost less. Resinsoul and BBB dolls are nicely made for their price - it's not like they are just thrown together.

All resin BJDs are made essentially the same way. Some people prefer the feel of one sort of resin over another, or like one sort of jointing over another.

The bottom line is if you fall in love with the sculpt, or the sculpt is perfect for your character. After that it is no one's business but yours how much you paid for it (or didn't).

yes i agree if you love the doll who cares. but i myself have been told " oh you only have cheap dolls you must not really want to be in the hobby " . this was the biggest BS moment i have ever had in this hobby. i could not believe this woman just told me this. i was very offended and later i wondered how many people she had ran away from this community with her views

Those dolls still seem expensive in my book. :P

Edit
What?? That's extremely rude. I'm sure she has chased people away if that's her attitude. Anyone raised with good manners would want to stop associating with her. That's just an embarrassment to happen at a social gathering.

Next time tell her to shove her expensive doll where the sun don't shine because in your eyes, your dolls are priceless.

Personally I have "cheap" dolls, and I have "expensive" dolls - I like them all equally :)

well most people i know in the hobby share that view. as long as you love your dolls who needs to say anything about it just because all your dolls cost 1000+ each. it was just great because i was carrying my aod with a ton of custom work done to it ( he was at the time a copper dragon with hand painted body scales ) and everyone at the meet was much more interested in my " cheap " boy over her factory painted iplehouse. the look on her face at the paint was too funny. and it just goes to show you if you love your doll and put that love into the work done to it, it will easily out shine any doll just bought for the price tag.

I'm also a little alarmed that she thinks people need to have some sort of commitment to their hobby? A hobby is suppose to bring enjoyment, not own you. People shouldn't have to feel they have to buy things they don't like or can't afford just to prove to others that they're committed to something that's suppose to make them happy. If that's what she's doing, I feel sorry for her.

sadly no matter what your hobby you will always meet one or two people like this. every hobby i have or have had i always meet at less one. but for every one of those you meet you meet hundreds of great people that are fun and great to be around.
