I don't have MH, but I give all of my gals & guys their own personal names. If the figure has a back story, I refer to it as a part they played, before coming to Studio 126. I also use their official names for identifying their head sculpts. From there I will use those official names like:

"Jackie has a Diva head sculpt," or
"Jackie is played by a Diva head sculpt."

I think what Melted Caramel said has quite a bit of merit and comes across as cautious rather than dissuading. True enough, every fandom is going to have a segment of people who see themselves as guardians of all that is true within said fandom. They are out there but how much of a bother they can be largely depends on how you handle them and how tough your own skin can be.

As far as what goes on here, there's no problem with giving a stock doll a unique name and personality. That's simply playing and most normal people have done it as kids. Some of us less normal people still do it as adults!

Awww, thank you Geektopian. I certainly wasn't trying to insult or hurt Starwaia's feelings! Quite the opposite in fact. I think she should do whatever she feels like doing, but I have firsthand experience with something like this. I usually consider myself pretty above ridiculous things like internet fights, but I was roped into one over something stupid and unrelated to dolls so I won't recount it here, but suffice to say I was surprised how much complete strangers could make me feel like utter crap. There are people out there that no matter how hard you try and defend yourself, and how honest and earnest you are, nothing satisfies them until they feel you've repented for your evil evil EVIL sins and have repented. Even then sometimes you're just on their sh*t list and they'll continue to harass you over any minor perceived indiscretion.

Since Starwaia seemed a bit apprehensive and unsure in her original post, I just wanted to remind her that Tumblr isn't the most forgiving of mediums. It can be fun, but it also gives people the power to harass you via ask box, and most "Ask (Insert Name Here)" blogs leave their askbox set to anonymous due to the very nature of the blog. You severely limit your chances of being asked things if anonymous people can't stumble across it and ask, especially since she is not imitating a canon character from a popular series.

It all depends on how comfortable Starwaia feels in the end. I don't think she is doing anything wrong (quite the opposite) by giving her factory doll a personality and name of her own. It shows imagination and creativity.

I just wanted to, since no one else had at that point, remind her of the potential downside that she may not have thought of before. I didn't mean to come off as some sort of naysayer or downer, I just wanted to tell her so she wouldn't get any nasty surprises is all. :)

But like I said, it's Starwaia's choice 100% and I support her decision either way. She's not hurting anybody or anything. I hope I came off as informative and not "moral guardian" like.
