Resin BJD age

Postby twinage » Fri Nov 29, 2013 10:20 am

I wondering about how long can a resin BJD last?
Will it still be the same in 10 years (except skin color) if I always play with mine carefully? I hope that it can last as long as it can be because the doll I'm going to have will share some of my personalities and my favorite characteristic and growing old with me (changing style, backstory and age, etc).

I read that the modern BJD was launched by dollfie for the the first time is 1999 so the oldest doll there is 14 years. So anyone who have own one and maybe have him/her for around 5 year or more, does your doll still the same (except yellowing)? Does the resin feel different or not as strong as before?

Thank you very much and all answer is appreciated :D

I have a doll made in 2006 and one made in 2008, although I'm not the original owner. Both are in very good physical condition (though there is the yellowing - or in my Beauty White's condition, greening). As far as I can tell, as long as the doll is well cared for, it should last for a very long time.

I have 4 dolls from 2006/2007 and they are just the same as when I bought them, except for the yellowing. However, they have yellowed evenly so you wouldn't notice much unless you have a newer doll near them. They all still have their original elastic, too, and it works as good as when they were new!

I think if you are careful with the dolls, they'll be fine! ^^

Dollfie is a line of vinyl 1/6 scale dolls made by Volks, started in the late 1990's. A few years later Volks made their first 1/3 scale doll out of polyurethane resin, which was the start of the Super Dollfie line.

Okay, thank you everyone for answering my question. It hurt me if I can't have my doll with me for a long time after bonding so it is really reassuring to have one that can last long.

I don't know too much about the 1/6 scale as I only read the information in wikipedia. But thank you for giving the information

If my beauty white turning green Xavier just turned seven then the first batch of 1/6 scale Volks and Obitsu are eight but the first pair are at least nine. All of them are doing fine. You don't want to use them as tack hammers and they aren't kid tough but they'll last for an adult collector. Obitsu hold up to posing better, the Volks joints have loosened up over the years.

I've only had structural failures on two dolls in my life time, the Medicom RAH's arms fall off because of a bad design, and he does a lot of standing around and nothing. One of the Gameitoy guys came apart at his seams but went back together with glue.
