Why Greyhaunt hasn't been around much

Postby Greyhaunt » Sun Dec 01, 2013 10:25 pm

I'm sure some of the long time members have noticed that I haven't been around a whole lot this past year, and figured I should just let folks know that I am fine, but it hasn't been a very easy year on me. Last December I got laid off of my job, and for four month I had no work at all. Just when I was getting desperate I got a temporary job working at one of the state boards. Unfortunately, access to the internet is very restrictive when working for the state, so I don't get to the forum as much as I would like to. I can read it on my smart phone, but posting is a real pain so I rarely do it during the day.

Anyway, I had hoped to be hired on permanently by now, but when a job opening came up last month in the department where I have temped now for 7 months, it was given to someone who was already an employee and had been there for a year. I'm still working as a temp, but with all the holidays (for which I do not get paid) I've been working longer hours to make up for potentially lost income, so I haven't had a lot of energy to go online after work.

Rumor has it that another, better, job will be opening in the new year in my department, but after my last disappointment I'm not going to get my hopes up - and I will probably start looking elsewhere for something permanent.

Anyway, as you can tell from my occasional rant or rule change I am around and not abandoning this place by any stretch, I'm just having a tough year.

So sorry to hear about the rough time you've had. I know what it's like to be laid off! I'm glad you found something, but the insecurity of a temp post is not nice, so I pray the new year will start with open doors and a permanent job offer. All the best :D

I was unemployed for about 3 years, so I know it really bites. Wishing you a much better and permanent job in the New Year.

Sorry to hear that you're still having a tough time.
