This thread is too interesting to die so quickly. Okay, Dollykim, you have me officially obsessed about that book. I too have many "lost book" wishes, starting with one:
There was a story I read as a young girl, about a girl who came from the ocean and couldn't speak human language and was basically studied like a lab animal. It also featured dolphins. Now, I know everyone is probably thinking "Oh, The Music of Dolphins right?" No. No. I've been...err...what you would call an "advanced reader" for my entire life (I now chew up to 500 pages a day easily and my book bills are almost as high as my dollies!), and while naturally the limits of human memory often dump things like the title of the damn book, I still remember this book was much more vivid and savage. I re-read "The Music of the Dolphins" just to be positive, and while there are some similar elements, this book was much more realistic, and portrayed the girl with a complex inner working mind that found savagery in the scientists and there was also a mystical element that's nagging me, it may just be her plan for escape or her alien-like observations of her captors, something like that, but eventually she manages to escape her captors and return to the sea. I wish I could find this damn book and I KNOW I'm not imagining it.
Driving me nuts.
Also, I know this isn't your book Dollykim, but I've noticed butterfly masks are an extremely common theme...have you thought of asking this question on "Ask Yahoo"?
Here's a butterfly mask themed artwork for you with the Emperor Moth as the theme:
