This thread is too interesting to die so quickly. Okay, Dollykim, you have me officially obsessed about that book. I too have many "lost book" wishes, starting with one:

There was a story I read as a young girl, about a girl who came from the ocean and couldn't speak human language and was basically studied like a lab animal. It also featured dolphins. Now, I know everyone is probably thinking "Oh, The Music of Dolphins right?" No. No. I've been...err...what you would call an "advanced reader" for my entire life (I now chew up to 500 pages a day easily and my book bills are almost as high as my dollies!), and while naturally the limits of human memory often dump things like the title of the damn book, I still remember this book was much more vivid and savage. I re-read "The Music of the Dolphins" just to be positive, and while there are some similar elements, this book was much more realistic, and portrayed the girl with a complex inner working mind that found savagery in the scientists and there was also a mystical element that's nagging me, it may just be her plan for escape or her alien-like observations of her captors, something like that, but eventually she manages to escape her captors and return to the sea. I wish I could find this damn book and I KNOW I'm not imagining it.

Driving me nuts.

Also, I know this isn't your book Dollykim, but I've noticed butterfly masks are an extremely common theme...have you thought of asking this question on "Ask Yahoo"?

Here's a butterfly mask themed artwork for you with the Emperor Moth as the theme:

Heh, thank you Victoriavictrix for the BookBub link, never saw that! The Thule Chronicles has nothing to do with the book I remember though. It had the same "feral child found in wilderness" set up that "The Music of Dolphins" did, and like I said, I distinctly remember there being dolphins and a lot of 'the sea' type stuff but there is a lot of drama and insight into the humans who study her like she's an object...none of these sound like what I just described by their blurbs. The blurbs sound interesting though. :> Another one for the reading list!

I remember an illustration like that on a book at the fabric store in the craft section. I think it was a stain glass book. Sweetest185 loved it for her doll Butterfly.

If I could wish for something trivial, it would be a vacuum cleaner that doesn't break after two years. I have tried them all, the cheap ones, the expensive ones, the ones for pet hair (two big dogs and five cats), and it doesn't matter. No matter how well they work (and frankly, expensive or cheap, they all seem to work the same), after two years, they break. I think my parents had their vacuum cleaner (a steel canister space-aged looking thing) for about 20 years.

Have you tried canister vacuums? Or are you using uprights. Also, have you tried getting one at goodwill like your parents? Mine are still using the Hoover Constellation they got a long time ago!

The book about the girl and the Dolphins ... it wouldn't be Island of the Blue Dolphins, would it? The plot sounds kinda similar...

Edit: Or maybe not. The plots are rather different, after all.

Haha, see why I'm so incredibly frustrated!!??! I just know it's going to be one of those "small publishing house that my school library happened to get ahold of" type deals where I'll literally NEVER find it.

In other news, a trivial wish I'd like granted is for all of my doujinshi to magically be organized and put away. I have about ten giant three-by-four tubs filled with them, and it seems all of my favourites got magically transported to the bottom of every box! Rawr!!

It actually sounds a lot like 'Ocean Girl' which was an Australian TV series from the late 1990s.

It was about a girl named 'Neri' who grew up with whales/dolphins, and lived alone on an island there, until two sons of one of the lead scientists of a research expedition team/company named 'ORCA' discovered her and they befriended her. They taught her English and kept her secret for as long as they could, since ORCA kept almost finding out about her as she was able to communicate with the dolphins, stay underwater a long time, swim fast, was superstrong, etc. When they did, they wanted to study her like a lab experiment, as you said.

It was set in the 'near future' so it had some sci-fi elements to it and in the end, it turned out that Neri (and her little sister found later on) were aliens from another planet, etc.

It wasn't a book, though, so it's probably not it but it just seemed so similar... ^^

There are books about Ocean Girl - so maybe that is it?
