Barbie, Jenny, Fashion Royalty, Obitsu and 1/6 resins - basically anything 10-12inch/21-27cm or in the neighborhood.

Volks doll bodies have broader shoulders but they are not as pretty or sturdy as Obitsu bodies.

How do they compare in pose-ability?
Prettiness doesn't bother me too much. She'll be probably staying in her dress which covers everything. Sturdiness does bother me a bit. I wouldn't say I'm like a bull in a china shop, but I'm not what you'd call the most careful person in the world.

Mmmhmmm, it depends on which Volks you get.

The EB bodies are floppy but are nearly as poseable as the Obitsu. (They however do not have the swivel upper arm joint that lets you turn the arms like an owl's head.) And they are floppy, particularly at the hip joints.

The EB Beauty bodies are less floppy but they are less poseable. They have less jointed areas for 'beauty' sake and their hands tend to tumble off. ^^;; They have soft large busts (from extra large to explosion bust as they call it.)

The Dollfie Plus/Customize bodies are sturdier but they have large derrieres, in my opinion, that kind of jut out! They are just as poseable as the EB bodies but have a slightly different waist system and they have the broadest shoulders.

The Neo bodies are more poseable than any Obitsu. They have jointed shoulders, necks that can look up or down, bust joint---pretty much a joint anywhere you can imagine. This is good if you want your doll to do a lot of 'realistic' looking poses. The one downside to the Neo is that her legs are a bit floppy (not TOO bad, but not great) and I've had one occasion where her bust/chest exploded in a million pieces (well, I exaggerate, but you get the idea) and it was hard to determine what went 'where' since everything was so jointed! :laughs:
But that was just once and they are very nice bodies if you don't mind seeing joints all over the place! It's very realistic posing!

The Obitsu might work really well as Setsunakou pointed out because of Merida's actual movie dimensions. Obitsu can't be beat in the sturdiness department (they can hold poses like nothing else!), and Merida's got a very slim frame. At least if the 23cm body doesn't work you can get the 27cm one on the cheap at Parabox? ^^;; The only reason I'm having a sizing issue here is because I don't know if Merida conforms to the usual Barbie height standards or if they made her smaller because of her age, more like around a teenage Barbie size. If that happens, the 25cm body from Obitsu would probably work best. As for the head sizes and Obitsu, I wouldn't worry too much because of the character design. Her head is nearly WIDER than her shoulders in the movie!

Let us know how it turns out!! Maybe a picture or two? ;)

So, yeah, 23cm was absolutely the wrong size. I really should have checked before ordering, but I did order another head just in case, and I am happy with my new little gal. She's very darling. Now to find clothes that fit her!MH clothes almost fit but are just a bit too snug...

As for Merida, I guess it's to be 27 cm, as suggested! I can't get it right this second, so I have a bit of time to debate between obitsu and that Volks neo. So no pictures of her hybrid quite yet, but at least I know it will be possible!

Bratz, Moxie Girls, and Bratzillas close work depending on the bust size. Also if you can find some Barbie clothes from the "dwarf" era (for about a year Fashion Fever dolls were made with a different, shorter, smaller body) they fit okay. :)
