dolls for teens

Postby Rage_girl » Fri Dec 27, 2013 1:09 am

This Christmas i was talking with some of my family about chipping in together and getting my 13 year old cousin a resinsoul BJD of her very own. She loves mine and helps me clean them and maintain them so she knows a good deal about them. So i was wonder has anyone else on here bought a doll for someone in her age range before and how well did it go? i trust Leah to take care of what ever i get her. but this seemed like a good topic to start here and get a great tread going. So the basic question is ???? What is your opinion on dolls for young teens or preteens????? :?:

As an older teen myself, obviously inclined to say it's okay xD But I think it depends on the kind of person the teen is. If they are responsible and know to be gentle and careful with their doll, then I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to have one. But if they're like...my little sister, who always leaves her other toys and things on the floor and enjoys playing with everything roughly, then probably no. Even though I love her to death and she's very good at being careful with Gillie when I'm watching her, I have a feeling she might not be responsible with her own doll.

So yeah, I suppose it depends on the teen ^^ But from the way you described her, I think Leah would be a very good doll owner <3

I would suggest the buyers decide on a price range first, as a teen she should understand that, then find dolls in that range and let her decide which sculpt and size. Maybe have her do some chores or something to help earn the doll or earn extras for it.

My daughter was 16 when she got her first resin BJD. She tends to buy because she likes the sculpt, but then sets it on her shelf and doesn't do anything much with it. She has her particular characters and once she has them set the way she wants them, they don't get much attention.

I have seen some kids that are very rough on dolls -.- and meet a few at cons that needed leashes. i had a kid walk up ask to see the doll i had and then started to pick and pull at it right up to pulling off his wig. i could not believe it was happening thankfully Okami was with me and she ran the kid off pretty fast. she is leah acted like that i would never thank to give her a doll. of course if i get leah a doll she will be getting pulled along to doll meets with me >>

It really depends on the child and how they are as an individual, my oldest is now 20 she has many dolls. but when she started she took birthday money and bought a goodreau secret. then saved up and bought a hujoo wings, marmit elf and a bobobie weylin. she adores her dolls she is away at school so her dolls are boxed up at my home currently but for Christmas I sent her a Ai tiny as she missed her dolls she was overwhelmed and so happy. my youngest wanted a bobobie tiny when she saw it, she had me print off a photo from junkyspot of the lil pink elfkin I covered it in clear packaging tape and she named the doll in the photo and said what her eye color and hobbies were and her hair style so figuring she was too young I bought my first doll a ws bobobie eric in need of some tlc I cleaned him up and she decided it was her girls boyfriend and I needed to see how she would treat one if she would even like it once she saw the size she did and said how she knew her doll was fragile like a baby an needed to sleep at night on the bookshelf and she needed to cradle her I did buy it my daughter is now 8 Freddie is now almost 5yrs old and still looks like she is new. she spoils her and has loved her so much she took money from Christmas and birthdays to buy her a sister and a friend. this yr Freddie apparently broke up with eric and is now with Jason (yes its Freddie and Jason like the horror movie except Freddie is a girl so spelt different) her new ns elfkin for Christmas. she is so cute the stories she makes up for her dolls I don't know a lot of kids 10yrs older then she that could do any better job.

that is kinda why i am not to worried about leah. she knows how i handle mine and she is always asking how to care for them. the only problem i have is i cant really ask her is it is a birthday gift so i cant really ask her what she wants. my mom who is chipping in to get it thinks we should make it look like her. scene it seems a few of you on here have kids what do you think. should i try to make up some kind of personality for the doll know the things she likes or would she find it cool to have a mini me around ?

Does she like one of your dolls more than the others? Maybe a get her a copy of that. Or does she have a character she already likes? Do you know if she'd want a boy or a girl? What hair and eye colors she likes?

Some people aren't mini me people, of all the dolls I have none are just like me. When I was younger I might have liked a twin but as I teen I would have wanted someone I could tell secrets to. Now my favorite doll is a boy who embodies my favorite character.

Well, this might not be as fun a gift to give but perhaps you could give a print out of whatever companies are in your preferred price range and let the teen pick the doll of their choice. That would be just as fun to receive cause the teen gets to pick out her own sculpt.
