Thinking of starting a doll magazine

General discussions about dolls, new releases, doll reviews...you know, stuff that doesn't really fit in all the other categories but is strictly about dolls.

With the unjoy of updating my website I can definitely see the point in one and done. That's why I'm looking at the thickness of a mook. Each issue can be self contained with it's articles incase there never is another one, see the next issue was a peeve for me when I was a more active magazine buyer. I might burst and put out several then not do another for months or years.

Digital wise I'm going to look in to Etsy for selling and hosting. I just bought a couple of pdfs hosted right there.

Unfortunately the digital path is what's prevalent now. I'm in the minority in that I still prefer to feel a book, even if it takes up physical space instead of a hard-drive. And pirating is...unfortunately an issue every person suffers when they put out a creative work, and there's no sure-fire way to keep ahead of it. The only decent way to SOMEWHAT combat pirating is putting a transparent copyright over the images, translucent enough to be unobtrusive to your loyal subscriber but something difficult for someone to simply photoshop out. But that's neither here nor there, I'm just commiserating as another person that had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the e-book world. And even now I buy paper magazines because I own the oldest, cheapest e-book reader available, no fancy backlight or colour pixels for me.

As for what I personally gravitate to? Tutorials. They can be about anything, from an accessory (jewelry for dolls can be a pain in the behind depending on their size...1/6 bracelets...*shudder*), to a certain way to modify a doll. Another big hit is a tutorial/interview combination with popular faceup artists and BJD makers. It's always fascinating to see the behind-the-scenes of someone you admire at work. I recently watched an artist friend livestreaming and it was so fascinating to watch her work in real time, her methods so different from my own...and I learned some tips and tricks along the way!

I hope to see your work in "print" of some kind Dollykim!! :D
