I think you're fine (and I really can't wait to see it) I mean, I would just go ahead with it, maybe put together a page explaining the head and the process that you can link to to cite credit for the sculpt when posting pics of it but if you're really worried about it, you could try emailing the company. Send them a picture of the mods, tell them what you want to do(being very clear about the not selling), and ask them if they're okay with that. As for giving away flawed copies to friends, if you really really trust the individuals to not try to sell them later, I think you're fine. Or you could try stamping/carving something inside the head/headcap saying something like "company name sculpt modified and cast by x. scrap head not for resell.

I think the biggest issues here are the passing it off as an original and selling for profit, neither of which you're doing.

If I bought a base head, modded it into something unrecognizable with apoxie, then cast myself a new version so it wouldn't be Frankendollieh, I don't even see that as a recast. That to me is using a head and making something new with it. You could as easily have started with ANY sort of base and made your new head.

To me recasting is taking ONE Dollzone, casting two, selling three, calling all three original Dollzone dolls. Totally stealing. Attempts to justify the practice makes me sick. If someone stole my art or stories and tried to publish them I'd just die (not that they're publishable, but still. As an example.) What if someone out there was trying to steal my silly Ivan stories? How does anyone justify THAT? My friends have their art stolen on DeviantART and Tumblr all the time. They're always having to post take-down notices against people stealing their art.

I don't mean to get off topic or anything but can the word rape be taken off the original post, or a trigger warning be put up. Sorry to bother everyone.

Rape
noun
4. an act of plunder, violent seizure, or abuse; despoliation; violation: the rape of the countryside.

verb (used with object), raped, rap·ing.
8. to seize, take, or carry off by force.

As mentioned, it is just a word, not even considered vulgar or profanity. If it upsets you to see it in print, stay away from this thread. If you need a warning that something like this is in your path ahead, call your ISP and cancel your account. This is the Internet, where every mouse click or keystroke can unwittingly bring you something that will upset you.

Um okay, it seems a bit rude to treat someone who politely asked that some kind of warning or change to the use of the word rape be put up, and to just respond with sarcasm and a dismissive attitude makes me really sad to see. Of course it's the internet, and you're very likely to see really awful shit pop up, but when you got a forum where it's emphasised that it's meant to be a welcoming environment it doesn't seem unreasonable to be accommodating to those who do feel uncomfortable.

Especially since words like rape does come with a lot of personal and social baggage, I can see why the use of the word rape in this context can feel dismissive or seem way in your face if you just wanted a safe space on the internet to talk about dolls. Yes, the mention of certain words CAN affect people deeply and a simple trigger warning could just suffice.

Idk, I don't think we need to wrap ourselves up trying to appease everyone with politeness and manners but a bit of courtesy instead of dismissing them as delicate babies who shouldn't use the internet is kind of a jerk move.

Thanks Kd. If it was any of the other synonyms of the word it wouldn't bother me, but seeing that bolded and thrown in my face is kind of harsh. Especially with that word.

Yours hopefully, a rape survivor.

I agree with KD that the replies are unnecessarily gruff.

FYI, myotishia, this request was discussed earlier within the body of the thread, if you didn't read the entire thing. You can also PM Greyhaunt directly as she is the author of the original discussion. (Don't let the tone of this thread put you off, she really is a sweet person, but she's also very passionate about certain subjects. ) Otherwise, as noted, it might get ... testy in here. Besides, she's the best person to explain her own words and intent.
