Questions about Meet Ups

General discussions about dolls, new releases, doll reviews...you know, stuff that doesn't really fit in all the other categories but is strictly about dolls.

Questions about Meet Ups

Postby versora » Tue Jan 28, 2014 8:33 pm

I know what they are. You and fellow doll owners meet up and hang out and meet other dolls. Here's my question[s]:

1. Have you or anyone else gone to one even though you or them didn't own a BJD?

2. Is is okay to go to one if you don't own one but want to see one in person?

I'm kinda afraid to go to one thinking I may be shunned for not having one. Plus I have no mode of trasport, so going to one is is a very tall order for me. I also live in Illinois, the seven hour trip to Missouri area. So as much as I love to meet new people and their lovely dolls, I has no car. But I can walk, but not for several hundred miles. That would take forever. *laughs*

We regularly meet here in the Twin Cities, and we encourage people who don't have them to come! It's a great way to see all the different possibilities, and decide which are for you! Plus there are sometimes dolls looking for new homes. We have had people go home with their first doll! You will be meeting people who understand why you want a doll, and you can learn a lot of tips and good shopping advice! Depending on where in Illinois, you might find a meetup closer. Dairyland runs meets, and there was recently on in Chicago. http://www.dairylandbjd.com/forum/forum.php

Ah, cool. I'll go check that out. I live in the Effingham area. But if they are farther away, well that leaves a problem.

If you were in my part of the left coast I'd welcome anyone who doesn't have a doll but wants to learn about them. Once upon a time we were all without special dolls. Some sizes you can't exactly picture until you get to see them in person.

We have a large local doll group in the DFW area. We often have people without dolls come who want to see different types of dolls before they make the investment. Our biggest meet-up had well over 100 dolls-it was a good time to see what was out there. I particularly like seeing the same doll styled by differet owners-the differences can be amazing. :D

Yep, because one of these days you'll come to one of our meetings!

We used to have 2 doll groups in the metro Atlanta area, but one kind of fizzled out. I enjoy our group so much that I actually travel 45 miles to the place we hold our meetings. Usually it's at one particular member's home, but it's been at a library several times (only the room there is small). We encourage people who are only interested in BJDs to attend and certainly those who don't yet own one. Heck we often have some for adoption at the meetings. You'd be surprised at the number of members who end up owning the same doll (or Dollheart outfit) - LOL!

*laughs* Well that's a relief. My big issue is getting there, and when I do find a scheduled one, I can't get there. We only have one vehicle, and hubby uses it for work and neccessary trips to get food. It bites that I live in yet another semi-quiet town. And I just moved from one half a year ago. And Chicago, IL is like four hours from where I live. *sulks* But I at least have online peeps. ^_^
