I have a Mackenzie too and agree about the paint job. Skin tones affect them too, my India Barbie is a Theresa but she's almost as dark as the light AA Barbie but with more of an orange tone.

As for the price change at thrift stores my mom used to work at a Goodwill and they'd use certain colors and codes to denote when something came in. Looking at the condition of her tag I'd say Kira is the new comer and they don't keep consistent prices on "Barbies".

Ahhh, actually that makes me feel a little bit better DollyKim. <3 I thought it might be something like that, which is why I mentioned the different tags, but I didn't want to count out the whole ethnic factor in case it sadly did play a part. Thanks for the information DollyKim!!! Now I won't be so paranoid if I notice something like that again. ^^;;

If the demand is made for dolls of color then someone will have to meet it...

That only seems true by geographical location. I don't think the demand made in San Diego, CA, will change the dolly stock in Rhinelander, WI.

Though, I am always on the lookout for non-Caucasian, articulated bodies (when I find a head that needs one), the market here doesn't support them. Such bodies have been easier to find in urban centers.

Usually the simplest explanation is the answer. The volume many of these stores deal with, seriously count the dumpsters they take out, demands some sort of system. Color of the plastic tag, shape of the tag, numbers it starts or ends with, even the color of the pen they use to mark the tag helps keep track of inventory and rotation.

And I hear ya about some markets being more inclined to ethnic dolls. Only one of our area Big Lots was inclined to get the AA Power Team Elite and they would have a better selection of SiS dolls. I've only been able to snag one of the guys.

I just put Faith's head on Mattel ballerina body. The skintone was a perfect match, and she has flat feet so she can stand on her own. Hooray!
