Uggh, Mattel! (EAH Cerise)

Postby Mary Kathryn » Wed Jan 29, 2014 7:45 pm

I ordered my Ever After High Cerise Hood (daughter of Little Red of course) from Toys R Us. I was really looking forward to getting her. Her eye color looked and is so gorgeous. But I'm a bit upset. Par for the course with some Mattel dolls that have hats, or in her case a hood, the top of her head is so sparsely rooted it's bare in places. I'm disappointed...although I should know better I guess. I've been able to comb over enough to keep the bare spots from being super visible but still. I paid $30 with shipping and annoyed. A $20 doll should never have bald spots....even if she's got a hat on.

I'm kind of worried to see how the quality of all my dolls are when I finally get to unboxing them. =/ That is definitely not acceptable especially with how expensive these dolls are. We pay good money to get good stuff, not this.

Yeah, I'm kind of mad at Mattel too. I bought an Abbey to turn into a custom and she had a side pony tail. When I took her hair down to style it, it was also very sparsely rooted. They did the minimal coverage for how her hair was styled. I've also had MH dolls that have started coming apart at the seams on the thighs and I bought a Gholia for a custom who's faceup was really smeared. I know they're manufactured in a factory, but where is the quality control? Sorry about your doll, I totally feel your pain!
Do you have any idea what that will do to my complexion? People will mistake me for a planetarium!

That's pretty bad. I hope it's just a lemon and not all Cerise dolls are like this.
I'm mostly on Tumblr now.

Same thing happened with my Gloom Beach Frankie, on the back of her head she's so sparsely rooted it looks like it just never was put in. I had to keep putting her hair in ponytails to hide it. I was happy to get Electra (my BW Frankie) and consider her 'perfect'.

Operetta is missing large patches on her forehead. While rerooting I've had to add holes and/or thatch parts to cover them up. As for smeary faces when I knew I was going to repaint a doll I'd look for those.

Mattel will listen to your complaints if you contact them. They offered to refund my broken Toralei because they had run out of replacements at the time. I kept her so I'd have one but the point is there.

That's bad.

Also a bit daft - if they're going to scrimp on the hair for whatever reason, wouldn't it make sense to do it where it would be less noticeable?

Well, I checked the Toybox Philosopher's review and she didn't mention anything about bald patches on her Cerise. I may have just gotten a lemon. DollyKim is right, though. When I got my MH C.A. Cupid she came without wings. I requested just the wings but they sent me a whole new doll at no charge and without wanting the one I had returned. I have no doubt they'd replace Cerise. I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble when I can match the hair and root it myself. Still, I expect a product to be in good condition when purchased. I might drop them a line just to let them know. I guess I really shouldn't complain unless I'm willing to do something about it.
I've noticed the quality is bit off on the Monster High girls sold at the around $10 price point. I bought a dance class Lagoona and unlike my other two she has bald patches. Also, even on expensive collector dolls I've noticed that if they're wearing a hat the hair tends to be sparse - probably for display reasons.

Then I got a lemon too, because mine has the same thing as well. It can be fixed with some shampooing and styling, but no one should have to do that. I don't want to see the quality fall on these girls, or Monster High for that matter. :(
