Snow Day (We mean it this time!)

Postby embyquinn » Wed Jan 29, 2014 8:01 am

As some of you may know, we live on the Gulf Coast, in Mobile, Alabama, about 150 miles east of New Orleans, or as we fondly call it, "Hurricane Central". Snow is a very rare occurrence in these here parts; in fact, the last actual snowfall we had was back in 1996. The entire city is shut down right now--literally. The mayor, the governor, AND the sheriff are telling everyone to STAY THE PHUOC OFF THE ROADS. Right now it's 20 degrees F outside with a windchill of EIGHT.

So, of course, Emby grabs her phone, her dolls, and goes out to take a few snaps. XD

The dolls are...less than enthusiastic.

Cherry is not AT ALL used to standing on an icy crust. Johnny has to hold her steady. I wanted them to build a snowman, but since the crust is mostly ice and frozen solid, that's not an option. Even if I scrape up enough to make a handful, it doesn't stick together because it's just too solid.

These are the times when Riri is very, very happy she has a nice WARM husband.

The obligatory birdbath pic. At least Cherry doesn't have to worry about falling in. In fact, she seems to be admiring the view around the neighborhood--it's admittedly pretty, in a HOLY CRAP IT'S COLD kind of way. Johnny, on the other hand, seems to be glaring at the photographer for putting them through all this for the sake of a photo-op. But promises of going back inside and hot chocolate all around (with marshmallows!) keeps him from threatening to kill me in my sleep.

I love the pictures! But I admit I have to laugh. If it's a windchill of only 8 degrees with an actual of 20 we think heat wave right now! Our car might actually start. On the other hand, I think you are very brave to take pictures in what is very cold to you.

Laugh away. I realize that to a lot of people, this is balmy winter weather. But for us in the Deep South, it's CUCKING FOLD!!!!111one.

Right now I'm watching the local news which is showing people on the road trying to drive on icy roadways, climbing hills...and sliding back down. They are saying like every 10 minutes "Stay off the roads! Don't drive unless you have to! There is ice on the road!" and showing live pictures of car crashes and junk to discourage travel. You'd think it was The Day After Tomorrow down here.

And I want to go out and take more pictures before it all melts and Johnny's like "OH HELL NO." He REALLY hates the cold...

Awwww! Nice pics! I love the first one most.

I didn't realize\remember you were in Mobile. I'm in Montgomery! Hay neighbor! Hats off to you for staging a photoshoot in all this winter storminess! I've popped out a few times to take pics of the snow but haven't made it further than my doorstep. I think my dolls would kill me if I took them outside in all this even if I promised gourmet smores. XD

I'm really thankful the university I work for has remained closed. I haven't seen much footage out of Mobile but it's pretty much the same here. They just opened the county and city roads a few hours ago and the speed limit until further notice is 25. I'm just thanking my lucky stars I don't live in Birmingham or Atlanta and am safe, at home, and warm.
You guys got more icing. Did you lose power or did it stay on? I was worried about power loss but thankfully it didn't happen. And I'll stop hijacking your photo shoot now. :p

Oh yay, somebody who doesn't live on the other side of the planet (or even the country)!! We'll have to try and meet up sometime. Montgomery's only a couple of hours away...

We kept power, thank God. Otherwise it would have been very, very, very uncomfortable. It never got above freezing, though. And I wanted to take the dolls out again for some pictures in the front but I'm afraid I chickened out. Too windy, too cold, I didn't want to go.

Hey there embyquinn!! I have to admit, like zirconmermaid I giggled a little bit at the temperature too. The last few days around here it's been well below freezing (it hit 9 degrees the other day) and the windchill is in the negatives. I was in the ER tonight and the news was on in the waiting room and the weatherman goes "It's going to go up to 15 degrees within the next few days." And the guy next to me was like "IT'S ABOUT F***ING TIME!!!"

Now, as for your photos, wheeeee review time! ;)

The first picture is absolutely adorable, they look very much in love and Johnny looks quite chivalrous. :) Also, the matching hats are just <3.

The second picture is a cute close up!! Johnny looks pleased with himself!! 8-)

I love the birdbath picture. If you don't mention it's a bird bath it almost looks like boulders they're leaning back against. The pose is so natural and relaxed feeling, just like a happy couple should be. :D

Great job all around embyquinn!!!!
