help with first BJD choosing

Postby michellebebe » Sat Feb 01, 2014 6:06 am

Hello,
I plan to buy my first BJD (1/3) and I have two alternatives:
Doll leaves- grown up Amara
Doll familly H- Lydia
but I do not know about their resin quality or body poseability and I am quite afraid.
You guys here know a lot about this hobby. So, I would like to hear what you think. It would be big help.
(I am from Slovakia, so sorry for bad english)
Dolls I own: Edwina (Ds-grown up Amara), Hieronym (Ds-Xixi), Dawei (MH-Draculaura)
Waiting, planning: Lawrence (Ios-Mezz/)

Hi michellebebe. I can help you with one of those. I have a Doll Family-H Ella and while I reshelled her character with a grail doll ( :D ) I have never been unhappy with her quality or posability. The DF-H girls have a slightly larger bust than average, but definitely not the largest out there. The only outfit I tried on her that was snug was a Dollheart Fer, but since she didn't need to breath it still fit! LOL! At any rate, they fit into pretty much any of the SD13 girl clothes, shoes and wigs out there. If I had another character in mind in SD size, I'd still keep her.

Hope that helps.

Mint on Card in the US carries them, but I don't know where you would get them from. I have seen both companies dolls, just not these ones. Doll Leaves feels more delicate to me, and their resin is translucent. It is very pretty. Doll Family dolls always attract me because of the sculpting. Both companies have events right now. Doll Family cost less, but you should get the doll you like best. It is a hard choice!

Hello, I have a Doll Leaves Doris SD girl with a custom faceup, but as she is my first and only BJD, and I've never seen any other brand 'in the flesh' so to speak, I have nothing to compare her with.
Also as I've only had her for a couple of weeks I can't comment too much on how commercially available clothes and shoes fit her although I understand from what I've read that that most SD13 clothes fit but jeans or trousers may be tricky.

I can say that I am very happy with the quality and finish of the resin and the body has good articulation and importantly for me her ears, hands and feet are well designed and pleasant to look at.
I will take some pictures of her at some point and post them on here but what I would suggest is that you try to find some pictures of the dolls you are looking at from sources other than the company websites - If I had only seen the official Doll Leaves photos of Doris then I would never even have considered her.

We do have a Doll Leaves dealer in the UK who may be able to ship to Slovakia as I understand she has customers all over Europe - the company is 'Angelesque' (no connection)

Whichever doll you choose I hope that you will be happy with her :)

I have a Doll Leaves Xavor. I thought the body mechanics were really well done. I wasn't a huge fan of their jointed hands. The resin feels nice though.
