For those of you who have always wondered, here are a few more ways to know you're Swedish:

Any holiday is an excuse to get drunk. So is Saturday. And Friday. And Wednesday.

<snip>

Any conversation inevitably turns to the weather.

These two work very well for the British, too :)

There'd be no "er" sound. It's "Wuh-stah." :) More commonly spelled "Woo-stah"

lol touché! That is totally true. I actually get all twitchy when I need to say that damn town name because I can't seem to do it. XD I have butchered almost every town name in New England. But I dare any Bostonian to try to pronounce the names in Florida, or some of the ones from New York, especially upstate.

:D

You know you're Swedish when:

- "Now now, let's not be that way."
- people thank you when you thank them
- you call your teacher/professor by their pet name
"Sir, that stolen lemur bit one of your prostitutes right in the face, and she says she can't go to a hospital because she's - quote - 'tripping balls'."

I've gotten to the point that I tell people, I'm from New York, and no, not New York City.

You know you're from certain areas in Upstate New York when:

• Cows are part of the scenery
• You know that the phrase, "Goin up ta," applies to going north, south, east, or west, up or down in elevation, and pretty much any other way you can travel.
• You can name everyone you graduated with
• You know what 4-H is
• You had a senior skip day
• You decide to walk for exercise and 5 people pull over and ask you if you need a ride.
• Your teachers call you by your older sibling's name. (Happens to my sister all the time).
• You've ever kept food cold by putting it on the back porch
• The mayor greets you on the street by your first name
• If you think that Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Utica, and Albany are big cities.
• It can be 70 degrees one day and below freezing the next, and you don’t think much about it.
• You know people who say crick instead of creek.

my favorites for my hometown of Baltimore City are:
"When speaking of a day of the week and the reply is "Mondee or Tuesdee""
"You know you're in Baltimore when you see that someone has cleared a parking space in front of a rowhouse and placed a couple of dilapidated kitchen chairs to reserve it."
"When you find chicken bones in your yard and you haven’t eaten chicken lately"
"When the whapwhapwhap of helicopters lull you to sleep at night"
and my absolute favorite of all,
"When your neighborhood crime listings read like the funnies"

Hahahaha omg yes yes yes and YES! Senior Skip Day FTW! Are you from the Tri-County area?

I'm the oldest sibling, but my younger sibs are both boys so they instead got "Oh you're Erika's younger brother!"
But... those ARE big cities. You mean people think they're not?

- New York City is not New York City. It is THE city.
- You know what a "hamlet" is.

New England: You keep milk cold during a power outage from a blizzard by putting it in a snow bank.

I'm from the Southern Tier Area.

Yes, we had our Senior Skip Day which many of my classmates took advantage of. My brother and sister usually get the, "You're Jessica's younger brother/ sister. She was a good student/ one of my favorite students." However, there are times when my sister gets called by my name.

No, people don't believe that our large cities are large at all. I think they're crazy. Those cities are huge.

Oh cool, I went to college in Elmira. Didn't last long though, the environment was not for me. I miss the Catskills so much. If I ever had the chance to go back, I would take it in a heartbeat, summer people and all.

Honestly, I don't think I actually took my Senior Skip Day either, but I might as well have. Nobody else showed up except my own friends because we actually enjoyed going to school just to hang with each other, so we all just chillaxed for the entire day.

Oh my gosh! These even work for where I live. I live in a rural town outside of a college twin city.

And being the youngest of three, most teachers knew me before I knew them.
