Johnny's new clothes

They're too sexy for their clothing - but they have to wear them anyway! Did you buy it? Did you make it? Who cares - let'm strut their stuff here!

Johnny's new clothes

Postby embyquinn » Sun Mar 02, 2014 12:05 pm

Yes, you read that right. I actually went to Wal-Mart to check out the new Barbie fashions and found only one thing I really liked for Cherry...but I found a BUTTLOAD of stuff for Johnny. In fact, I almost didn't get the dress for Riri because I was buying three outfits and my money was running low, but Johnny talked me into it..for reasons of his own, as you will see.

Image
Thousands of comedians out of work and hotshot here is trying to be funny. Love you, John, but here's a tip: leave the stand-up comedy to Cherry, she's better at it.

Image
Nice way to talk about the dude whose clothes you're wearing, Johnny. But I suppose that's partially my fault because I don't make as many clothes for him as I do for my girls. Mainly because I don't have many guy patterns, although that's no real excuse since I can make my own patterns from existing clothes.

Image
This was actually the outfit that first caught my eye. It's perfect for Johnny, don't you think?

Image
The boots are really nice. Also very hard to get on and off Johnny's feet. Last thing I want to do is break his ankles.

Image
Seriously, I think this outfit looks amazing on him. The jacket/shirt combo is really, really nice. I'm a little disappointed in the slacks; they're made of this thin plasticky material that doesn't feel nearly as nice as the dark blue velvet jacket. But it's looks, not feels, that counts, I suppose.

Image
Most of the Barbie new releases didn't thrill me. There was yet another generic pink sparkly halter dress, a red and gold faux brocade construction of the "Who shot the couch?" variety, and a kerfluffy pink nightmare that looked like somebody sewed shoulder straps and a magenta lame' bodice on a tribble. But then I saw this, and it went so well with the tux Johnny didn't have to try too hard to talk me into getting it for the girl whose closet is already bursting. And she definitely, uhm, fills it out with her curvy Volks body.

Image
That's the rose that came with the tux. It's moments like this that remind me that Johnny, with all his smartass attitude, really has a heart the size of Jupiter. And when he gives in and lets himself actually love someone, he's in it for keeps.

Image
The cellphone came with his second outfit above. (The first outfit's token accessory was sunglasses that, being Ken-head-sized, didn't fit.) This was not planned by me for the photoshoot, by the way. It just struck me as I was taking photos what day it was, and what was going on tonight in LA.

Image
And this would be just like expansive, impulsive Johnny...to whisk his lady away on a glamorous, romantic trip to where they'll have their pictures taken and he can show her (and himself) off to the world.

When he gets back, he is so grounded. He'll be lucky I don't lock him in a drawer.

 I like his sense of humor. And that 1961 shirt is an awesome coincidence! He looks handsome in his new clothes, and lucky Cherry, getting to go to the Oscars!

You don't have to imagine. Here's the evidence.

Johnny's really trying to push it with the smart alecky remarks

I like the 2nd set with the wash out denim vest look. That piece would probably cause a fight amongst my guys and the amazon ladies

Yeah, that's part of his personality in the comics, too. I've been a lifelong Fantastic Four fan and Johnny Storm was my first crush ever. I really hate his characterization in modern comics. Johnny's always been a bit of a cocky smartass, but he's never been disrepectful of women or a complete idiot. Not until this millenium, anyway. My Johnny is based on the original characterization of the Human Torch: something of a showoff, with a little affected swagger, seriously hot-tempered, and not always the most observant or analytical person in the room...but with a big heart and as brave and loyal as they come.

That was the outfit that first caught my eye, like I said. I knew I had to have it for Johnny. Then I found the 1961 shirt and the tux, and decided I needed to bring all three home for him. The one thing Johnny won't wear is anything with "Ken" marked on it. I tried to talk him into it once, telling him that "Ken" was Japanese for "strong and healthy" (which it is), but he maintains that Ken is American for "Barbie's boy-toy".

Tell him that according to my crew, 'Ken' means Ken Masters of the Street Fighters series and having some clothes is better than none at all.
